Geography
There’s an old saying that ‘God made the world, but the
Dutch made Holland,’ which you can almost believe when you
realise that nearly half the country has been reclaimed from
the sea. Miles upon miles of unbroken flower fields, farmland
and villages can all be found in this flat country which has
rolling hills and forests in the South along its border with
Belgium. Amsterdam, the largest city, has more canals than
Venice, featuring 95km (60 miles) of waterways, spanned by
1000 bridges.
