ABOUT: Injinji is the innovator of the “Original Performance Toesock” for runners and active outdoor
enthusiasts. Injinji, pronounced (In-gin-gee), which means to reach one’s peak of performance, is
dedicated to helping athletes attain their personal best by offering a five-toe-sleeve designed,
seamless, anti-friction interface that allows the foot to perform naturally and efficiently inside any
shoe.
MISSION: Injinji believes optimal foot health is a key part of overall wellness and remains dedicated to
promoting foot health awareness and preservation through its innovative and patented products.
BACKGROUND: In 1999, Injinji set out to redesign the basic structure and shape of the traditional sock to enhance
the function and freedom of the foot while inside a shoe. The result is the Performance Toesock –
an interface that combines the comfort and dexterity of bare feet with the added protection of a
seamless sock. This innovative toesock enables the toes to remain separate and perform as
intended, facilitating proper alignment, stability and gripping. Additionally, skin-on-skin friction
between the toes is eliminated, so feet are protected against moisture buildup, blisters and other
foot discomforts. The company received the coveted Seal of Acceptance from the American
Podiatric Medical Association for its Performance Series in 2008, and again in 2010 for its Ex-
Celerator Compression Toesock.
MARKET: Injinji outfits active men and women of all levels of performance for sport, outdoor and casual use.
All styles feature Injinji’s patented Anatomical Interface System (AIS) technology and can be
customized according to fiber, cushion level and length preferences.
COMMUNITY: Injinji proudly sponsors 50 athletes who compete in various sports such as ultra-running, trail
running, triathlons, cycling, golf, baseball and lacrosse. Injinji also donates toesocks to races and
events across the U.S. that help promote a healthy active lifestyle.
Injinji® Broadens Performance Toesock Line with
New Color, Fiber and Length Options for Spring 2012
More Choices Offer Active Consumers a Customized Toesock Experience
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 12, 2011) – Injinji, manufacturer of the patented Performance Toesock designed for sport,
outdoor and casual use, continues to expand its innovative line to offer active consumers an improved Toesock
experience. The company has introduced new color, length and fiber options for spring
2012, allowing wearers to further “customize” their Toesocks according to comfort and
style preferences, activity choice and more.
“We’re excited to bring customers our beneficial five-toe-sleeve technology, now
in even greater variety,” said Jason Battenfield, CEO of Injinji. “We’ve designed our
Toesocks to perform in any shoe, climate or terrain, but recognize that every activity and
consumer is unique, and therefore, more choices assist in creating an optimized
experience.”
NEW FIBERS
The Injinji Midweight Performance Toesock, designed as a padded interface for cushioned performance in any
shoe, climate or terrain, will now feature CoolMax® EcoMade – a moisture-wicking fiber made from recycled
plastic bottles. This renewable fabric keeps feet as cool, dry and comfortable as its original counterpart, CoolMax®,
but is also eco-friendly. Available in Mini Crew and No Show (NEW) lengths in a variety of new colors. MSRP:
$16
NEW LENGTH
Also new to the Injinji Midweight Performance Toesock is a desirable No Show length. This low-profile,
padded interface (pictured, in Green Tea) barely peeks above a running shoe, yet features an intelligent, slip-proof
design with a convenient back tab that keeps it comfortably in place, no matter the mileage it endures. MSRP: $16
NEW COLORS
Injinji introduces a host of bright new colors to several styles in its popular Performance Series, ideal for running,
walking, track & field, cross-training and more. The vibrant new hues, which include Poppy Pink, Gulf Blue,
Green Tea, Aqua Cool and Tidal Teal, among others, specifically adorn its Lightweight No Show and Midweight
Mini Crew and Midweight No Show styles. While the fresh colors evoke fun, these Toesocks are serious about
providing superior moisture management, healthy digital alignment and unmatched blister protection. MSRP: $12-
$16

Seasoned Team Injinji® Athletes Share Advice for Surviving the Toughest Ultras
Former Western States 100 Champion and Finisher Stress Preparedness and Injinji Performance Toesocks
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 24, 2011) – Long-distance runners in search of the
ultimate ultra challenge need look no further than The Western States Endurance
Run, a 100-mile trail event heralded as one of the oldest – and most challenging.
This no-holds-barred competition tests the limits of physical and mental strength,
taking racers on a remote and rugged course from Squaw Valley to Auburn, CA,
complete with staggering vertical climbs, steep descents and 100-plus-degree
temperatures.
Just how does one prepare for such a demanding course or other ultras just as grueling? Race veterans
Anita Ortiz, 47 – the 2009 female Western States champion (pictured right) – and Jonathan Gunderson, 33, both
Team Injinji athletes, offer up some personal training tips to succeed in – and survive – the toughest
ultrarunning events:
Q: When should you start training?
AO: For a June event like Western States, I start in January, but I train for other things prior, so it all adds up!
JG: I start thinking about Western States in early January and gear my racing schedule to peak near the event.
Q: How do you physically prepare?
AO: I train 4-5 hours per day, six days per week – a mix of running and cross-training. I don’t count miles; only
hours.
JG: I start with a lot of cross-training, such as riding a bike on a trainer, and focus on building up my total body
strength and endurance with dips, pull-ups, push-ups and core workouts with an exercise ball. To give my
muscles a rest in training for Western States, I don’t start running until mid-January. As my running activity
increases, I cut back on my gym work and train in four-week cycles that build in intensity each week. When
possible, I try to run on the actual race course to get some splits on different sections and give myself a visual of
what to expect on race day.
Q: How do you avoid injury during training?
AO: If it hurts for several days, take a rest day or two.
JG: Listen to your body and give it ample rest. Don’t take on the attitude that one missed day is more important
than your consistent weeks of training.
Q: How do you keep your feet in prime condition?
AO: I always wear Injinji Performance Toesocks, so I never have any foot problems. From the moment I put on
my first pair, I never got another blister. EVER!
JG: I check for calluses, make sure my nails are trimmed and wear Injinji Performance Toesocks. They keep my
feet dry and clean.
Q: What helps you mentally prepare?
AO: I prepare by being prepared. If I have put in the time and done the work, that knowledge serves as my
personal “mantra.”
JG: Part of the mental preparation comes from simply running long distances and giving myself the knowledge
that I can and have pushed through in the past. Prayer is also important. Some of the toughest moments in a 100mile
race come when you’re struggling alone in the dark, and prayer helps keep me centered, calm and feeling
like I’m never out there all alone.
Q: Any tips for handling ultras where heat and altitude changes are factors?
2
AO: Prior to race day, sit in a sauna once a day for two weeks, and stay hydrated. On race day,
make sure you eat early and often so that when things get tough, you have plenty of calories on
board.
JG: For the heat, I’ll use a sauna and sometimes train in quite a bit of clothing to help get
accustomed. In terms of the altitude, I try to arrange my schedule so that I can be at the event
location far enough in advance so that it’s a non-factor. If that’s not possible, Aspirin can help.
Q: What gear is crucial?
AO: My Injinji Performance Toesocks, Salomon hydration pack and SaltStick electrolyte capsules.
JG: I’m loving my Injinji Compression Toesocks (pictured left), which have been a big asset on the
longer races, staving off fatigue in my calves and helping with recovery after training. I also love
my Brooks Racer ST 5 shoes, which fit my physical frame and running style for long trail races –
even though they’re meant for the road. GU Roctane is fantastic in providing calories without
stomach discomfort or energy drain.
Q: What do you eat the night before and the morning of an ultra race day?
AO: The day before, I eat a steak at the noon hour and a salad for dinner. Breakfast is usually a Pop Tart.
JG: Since the bulk of carbo-loading takes place 2-4 days prior to the race window, I try to eat light the night before
– maybe whole wheat pasta with red sauce. The morning of, I sip on water with Nuun electrolytes and eat a Clif
Bar and a banana.
Q: What single piece of advice would you impart on an ultrarunning novice?
AO: Put in the time training. You can’t fake it at a race like Western States – the elevation and heat will eat you
alive. And stay cool by getting wet in every stream crossing you see!
JG: Do your homework. With the proliferation of ultramarathon information on the Internet, there’s a
tremendous opportunity to be as prepared as possible. Understand the challenge and familiarize yourself with
the course. Don’t underestimate how valuable that familiarity will be when you hit rough patches during the
journey.
STEP INTO YOUR INJINJI
For your first experience wearing Injinji Performance Toesocks, keep these key points
in mind:
Sizing Your Toesocks
Select your toesock size based on your dress shoe size to ensure proper fit and
performance
Fitting Your Toesocks
When putting on toesocks, make sure to fit each toe first before pulling the rest of the
sock on.
When fitted properly, there should be no excess material bunching at the heel or toes.
Wearing Your Toesocks
Once you have your toesocks on, take a few minutes to walk around to let your toes and
feet adjust. It may take 2-3 wears to adapt to Injinji Performance Toesocks.
Like anything new, the more you wear and perform in your toesocks, the more
comfortable you will feel.
Caring for Your Toesocks
Machine wash on warm or hand wash your toesocks after each use, and line dry
Do not machine dry, bleach or dry clean your toesocks
