24 VLADIMÍR JIRÁNEK (1938) One of the most significant Czech cartoonists ever, with a strong influence on animated films for children, especially in the seventies and eighties. He collaborated with a number of dailies and magazines. Jiránek is an experienced observer of life. He presents his observations to us in a comprehensive manner and an uncompromising way. Each of his drawings is a humorous solution to a serious problem. Most admired is his simplicity, and the ability for artistic shortcut. His drawings are simple: sober-minded, ordinary but expressive. Jiránek easily and forever conquered the hearts of Czech children and their parents by creating the stories about two white rabbits – Bob and Bobek (small Bob).
