Although <strong>2009</strong> marked the 26 th<br />
anniversary of the “Night Out Against Crime”,<br />
it is the first year in which Eldersburg Freedom<br />
Area played host to this national event which<br />
serves to; heighten crime and drug prevention<br />
awareness, generate support and participation in<br />
local anticrime programs and, send a message<br />
to criminals that the community is organized<br />
in a policing partnership against crime. Last<br />
year more than 37 million people nationwide<br />
participated in the “Night Out” according to the<br />
program founder, the National Association of<br />
Town Watch.<br />
A few of the scheduled activities and<br />
static displays included; Refreshments, Moon<br />
Bounce for kids, Police K-9 Demonstrations,<br />
Mobile Command Center, Bicycle Patrol, and<br />
more. Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the<br />
Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Patrol also provided<br />
crime prevention resources, including “DNA<br />
Child Identification Kits” to aid in the recovery<br />
of missing children. In addition to Target Inc.<br />
of Westminster, several government service<br />
agencies, local service clubs and businesses<br />
donated refreshments, door prizes and program<br />
literature<br />
