Record Number of Alumni Children
Enter University This Year
TV/TORE children and grandchildren
-LVA of Cornellians started in the
University this year than ever before,
according to the annual tabulation
compiled by the Alumni Office. Information
given by new students who
entered Cornell last spring and this
fall indicate that 378 of them have
alumni parents or grandparents. This
is about 13 per cent of the 2872 new
students in 1948, not including the
Medical College in New York for
which information is not available.
Largest number of Cornell children
previously admitted was 344 in the
three terms of 1946.
Thirty of Third Generation
Thirty new students reported
alumni parents and grandparents, as
compared with eighteen in 1947.

In addition to these thirty of uninterrupted
Cornell lineage, fourteen
new students reported alumni grandparents.
They are Edward F. Barnett,
Grad, whose grandmother was the

Edward W. D. Stevens, '51 Law,

Alumni Trustee of the University and

fifth grandchild, Malcolm Magruder
'50, son of Mrs. John Magruder
(Helen Schurman), is studying in
France this year, on leave of absence
from the University.
Besides these direct forbears and
the parents listed below, many brothers
and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins,
and other Cornell relatives were
noted.
The listings are made from in-
formation asked of all students who
enter the University for the first
time. Some always fail to name their
Cornell relatives, so these annual
listings of new students are frequently
incomplete. Additions and corrections
are earnestly requested, to complete
the records. They may be sent

came as Freshmen unless otherwise
designated by Class numerals. Asterisks
