History
Jeff Kubes Memorial Scholarship
Born July 21, 1977, in Baytown, Texas, Jeff Kubes spent the majority of his life in Fort Worth,
Texas. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1995, where he played baseball and
was named all-district first baseman. He earned a bachelor of science in political science
cum laude from Texas Tech University, where he was active in Campus Crusade for Christ. In
2003, Jeff earned his doctorate of jurisprudence from Texas Wesleyan School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Jeff worked for JP Morgan Chase Trust Department in
Dallas before joining the Perry Law Firm in Fort Worth, specializing in probate and estate
planning. He served on the board of directors for Tarrant County Young Lawyers
Association, and was nominated and accepted into the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court. He
volunteered with his attorney wife, Curran Skinner (TWU School of Law alumna, Class of
2003), in the annual Tarrant County National Adoption Day.
Everyone who knew Jeff was touched by his life. He was a compassionate citizen who lived
his life with the utmost integrity to serve those in need. Jeff knew the importance of
education and service, and he utilized his experience to encourage and inspire others to
achieve. He was a person of passionate convictions and principles, and displayed these
strong values in his personal and professional life. He loved history, especially American
history, and reveled in the Civil War and World War II periods. He was passionate about
baseball and the Czech heritage of his Kubes and Brezina families. In fact, while in law
school, he took some international law courses in Prague, Czech Republic, to follow up on
his heritage and other cultures of the world. Outside the practice of law, he enjoyed
spending time with family and friends, playing cards, and playing softball. He will always be
remembered for his determination, honesty and loyalty to others.
To honor Jeff’s life, his commitment to the legal profession, and his passion to serve and
educate others, the Fort Worth-Tarrant County Young Lawyers Association, Texas Wesleyan
School of Law, and the Kubes family have partnered together to create this scholarship.
