<strong>Alma</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ronnie</strong> <strong>Blackwell</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> <strong>Award</strong><br />

General Eligibility Requirements, ALL APPLICANTS MUST:<br />

*Please note general eligibility requirements, nomination process, selection criteria <strong>and</strong> the<br />

financial award are subject to change upon annual review by the executive scholarship<br />

committee.<br />

1. Be a rising second, third, or fourth year law student at Texas Wesleyan School of Law<br />

with at least one full semester remaining until graduation.<br />

2. Currently be enrolled as a full time or part time law student at the law school.<br />

3. Currently be ranked in the Top 30% of his/her respective class (approved transcripts<br />

required).<br />

Selection Criteria:<br />

The scholarship recipient may be selected by the <strong>Blackwell</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> Reviewing Committee<br />

based on the following criteria <strong>and</strong> will be awarded to a student who:<br />

Displays academic proficiency;<br />

Serves the community above <strong>and</strong> beyond Texas Wesleyan’s pro bono graduation<br />

requirement;<br />

Demonstrates civic <strong>and</strong> professional responsibility; <strong>and</strong><br />

Possesses exceptional leadership qualities.<br />

Application/Nomination Process:<br />

1. A student is eligible for this award if he/she meets all of the requirements mentioned<br />

above in the determination of Texas Wesleyan School of Law or its designee.<br />

2. A student can apply for or be nominated by faculty, staff, or a friend of the Texas<br />

Wesleyan School of Law community.<br />

3. To apply, c<strong>and</strong>idates are required to complete the application form attached <strong>and</strong><br />

provide the following information:<br />

a. Resume;<br />

b. Two Recommendation Letters;<br />

c. Personal Statement (no more than 2 typed, double-spaced pages; use traditional<br />

12pt. font);<br />

d. Statement of Affirmation (see below)<br />

4. If you are nominating an individual, please complete <strong>and</strong> return the nomination form<br />

attached to Casey Dyer Oliver in the Office of Alumni & Advancement before the<br />

application deadline.


5. Submit all applications to Sherolyn Hurst, Assistant Dean of Admissions <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Scholarship</strong>s, by Thursday, April 19th, at 5:00 p.m.<br />

6. Upon receipt of the student’s application, the <strong>Blackwell</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> Reviewing<br />

Committee reserves the right to contact each applicant to ask for additional information<br />

that is necessary to evaluate the applicant.<br />

Financial <strong>Award</strong>:<br />

The recipient of the <strong>Alma</strong> & <strong>Ronnie</strong> <strong>Blackwell</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> will receive a monetary award in the<br />

amount of $2,000 <strong>and</strong> a plaque. Applicants <strong>and</strong> nominees will be notified of the outcome of the<br />

scholarship by the end of May. The scholarship will be officially awarded at the Dean’s Annual<br />

Donor & <strong>Scholarship</strong> <strong>Award</strong> Dinner in August of 2012.<br />

Statement of Affirmation:<br />

I affirm that, to the best of my knowledge, all information <strong>and</strong> statements provided in this<br />

application are complete <strong>and</strong> accurate. I also agree to supply all academic records <strong>and</strong> other<br />

supporting materials requested by the <strong>Blackwell</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> Reviewing Committee, <strong>and</strong> I<br />

underst<strong>and</strong> that failure to do so will disqualify me from further consideration for the<br />

scholarship. I underst<strong>and</strong> that failure to register for <strong>and</strong> complete a full-time or part-time<br />

course of study at Texas Wesleyan School of Law will forfeit my scholarship. I further<br />

underst<strong>and</strong> that any false or misleading information or statements will disqualify me from<br />

further consideration for the scholarship.<br />
