Alma and Ronnie Blackwell Scholarship Award
General Eligibility Requirements, ALL APPLICANTS MUST:
*Please note general eligibility requirements, nomination process, selection criteria and the
financial award are subject to change upon annual review by the executive scholarship
committee.
1. Be a rising second, third, or fourth year law student at Texas Wesleyan School of Law
with at least one full semester remaining until graduation.
2. Currently be enrolled as a full time or part time law student at the law school.
3. Currently be ranked in the Top 30% of his/her respective class (approved transcripts
required).
Selection Criteria:
The scholarship recipient may be selected by the Blackwell Scholarship Reviewing Committee
based on the following criteria and will be awarded to a student who:
Displays academic proficiency;
Serves the community above and beyond Texas Wesleyan’s pro bono graduation
requirement;
Demonstrates civic and professional responsibility; and
Possesses exceptional leadership qualities.
Application/Nomination Process:
1. A student is eligible for this award if he/she meets all of the requirements mentioned
above in the determination of Texas Wesleyan School of Law or its designee.
2. A student can apply for or be nominated by faculty, staff, or a friend of the Texas
Wesleyan School of Law community.
3. To apply, candidates are required to complete the application form attached and
provide the following information:
a. Resume;
b. Two Recommendation Letters;
c. Personal Statement (no more than 2 typed, double-spaced pages; use traditional
12pt. font);
d. Statement of Affirmation (see below)
4. If you are nominating an individual, please complete and return the nomination form
attached to Casey Dyer Oliver in the Office of Alumni & Advancement before the
application deadline.

5. Submit all applications to Sherolyn Hurst, Assistant Dean of Admissions and
Scholarships, by Thursday, April 19th, at 5:00 p.m.
6. Upon receipt of the student’s application, the Blackwell Scholarship Reviewing
Committee reserves the right to contact each applicant to ask for additional information
that is necessary to evaluate the applicant.
Financial Award:
The recipient of the Alma & Ronnie Blackwell Scholarship will receive a monetary award in the
amount of $2,000 and a plaque. Applicants and nominees will be notified of the outcome of the
scholarship by the end of May. The scholarship will be officially awarded at the Dean’s Annual
Donor & Scholarship Award Dinner in August of 2012.
Statement of Affirmation:
I affirm that, to the best of my knowledge, all information and statements provided in this
application are complete and accurate. I also agree to supply all academic records and other
supporting materials requested by the Blackwell Scholarship Reviewing Committee, and I
understand that failure to do so will disqualify me from further consideration for the
scholarship. I understand that failure to register for and complete a full-time or part-time
course of study at Texas Wesleyan School of Law will forfeit my scholarship. I further
understand that any false or misleading information or statements will disqualify me from
further consideration for the scholarship.
