36 <strong>Wound</strong> CARE <strong>Instrument</strong><br />

fiscal resources: Related to financial resources <strong>of</strong> an organization.<br />

gap analysis: An activity that compares current practice to the best evidence available.<br />

generic: Referring to products in groups or classes using general terms rather than brand<br />

names.<br />

human resources: Related to the staff that operates an organization.<br />

integration into practice: Utilization into practice <strong>of</strong> knowledge, skills and attitudes attained by a person, group<br />

or organization.<br />

interactive learning: A method <strong>of</strong> acquiring information through hands-on, interactive means.<br />

interpr<strong>of</strong>essional education: Occurs when two or more pr<strong>of</strong>essions learn with, from and about each other to improve<br />

collaboration and quality <strong>of</strong> care.<br />

knowledge exchange: Collaborative problem-solving between researchers and decision makers.<br />

knowledge transfer: Transferring knowledge from one person, group or organization to another.<br />

mandate for intended change: For best practice to occur, change needs to happen at an institutional level, which requires<br />

administrative support.<br />

mentorship: A relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps a less<br />

experienced or less knowledgeable person.<br />

Non-promotional: Does not promote one product over another for the purpose <strong>of</strong> increasing or generating<br />

product sales.<br />

patient care outcomes: Outcomes may include prevention <strong>of</strong> or closure <strong>of</strong> a wound, as well as effective<br />

management <strong>of</strong> non-healable wounds. They may also relate to quality <strong>of</strong> life issues,<br />

such as decreased pain and suffering, odor or wound infections.<br />

patient-/client-centred care: Patients working with their healthcare providers to determine health goals that are<br />

realistic and achievable.<br />

preceptorship: A period <strong>of</strong> practical experience and training that is supervised by an expert or specialist<br />

in a particular field.
