Mr. Griswold married, October 9, 1878, erine, 1689; Sarah, 1691 ; Benjamin, Feb-<br />
Agnes E. Wiley, daughter <strong>of</strong> Orlando<br />
P. and Harriet A. Wiley, <strong>of</strong> Hartford.<br />
They have had two children: 1. Robert<br />
Charles, born August 1, 1881, died August<br />
7, 1897. 2. Harold Wiley, born December<br />
21, 1886, graduate <strong>of</strong> the Massa-<br />
chusetts Institute <strong>of</strong> Technology in the<br />
engineering department in the class <strong>of</strong><br />
1908 (degree S. E.) ; was for five years<br />
in the United States government service,<br />
and is now division engineer <strong>of</strong> the Nepaug<br />
Water Company <strong>of</strong> Hartford.<br />

Thomas Holcombe, the immigrant ancestor,<br />
was born in England and came<br />
early to Dorchester, Massachusetts, where<br />
he was living in May, 1634, when admit-<br />
ted a freeman <strong>of</strong> the colony. He sold<br />
land there in 1635-36, and removed to<br />
Windsor, and in 1639 located at Poquo-<br />
nock, four miles west <strong>of</strong> Windsor. In<br />
1639 he was a representative <strong>of</strong> Windsor<br />
in forming the constitution <strong>of</strong> <strong>Connecticut</strong>.<br />
He died at Windsor, September<br />
7, 1657. His widow Elizabeth mar-<br />
ried, in 1658, James Eno. Children:<br />

Nathaniel Holcombe, son <strong>of</strong> Thomas<br />
Holcombe, was born at Windsor, Novem-<br />
ber 4, 1648. He married, February 2J,<br />
1670, Mary Bliss, <strong>of</strong> Springfield. He<br />
lived at Simsbury, <strong>Connecticut</strong>. He was<br />
deputy to the General Court in 1703-06,<br />
1720 and 1722. Children except first and<br />
second, born at Simsbury and Granby<br />

Nathaniel Holcombe, son <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel<br />
Holcombe, was born at Springfield, June<br />
11, 1673. He married, November 1, 1695,<br />
Martha Buel. He lived at Simsbury and<br />
represented that town in the General<br />
Court, 1748-49-50-53. Children, born at<br />
Simsbury : Nathaniel, born October 29,<br />
1696; Benjamin, Elizabeth, Martha, Josiah,<br />
David, mentioned below ; Mary,<br />

David Holcombe, son <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel<br />
Holcombe, was born in Simsbury. He<br />
married Mehitable Buttolph, <strong>of</strong> Granby,<br />
<strong>Connecticut</strong>, where he was a farmer and<br />
innkeeper. Children, born at Granby<br />
Mehitable, born 1722; David, 1724; Deborah,<br />
1726; Martha, 1727; Reuben, men-<br />
tioned below; Susanna and Simeon, 1734;<br />
Ezra, 1735; Lydia, 1737; Ezekiel, 1738;<br />
Jedediah, 1740; Eli, born 1741, removed<br />
to Ulster, Pennsylvania.<br />
Reuben Holcombe, son <strong>of</strong> David Holcombe,<br />
was born in 1728-29, at Salmon<br />
Brook, and lived in the north parish <strong>of</strong><br />
Simsbury near Granby.<br />
Nahum Holcombe, son <strong>of</strong> Reuben Holcombe,<br />
lived in Granby.<br />
Jonathan Holcombe, son <strong>of</strong> Nahum<br />
Holcombe, was born at Granby, about<br />
1790. His daughter Louisa married<br />
Charles Griswold (see Griswold).<br />

Ira Dimock, a nonegenarian, who for<br />
forty years was one <strong>of</strong> the most responsi-<br />
ble residents <strong>of</strong> Hartford, <strong>Connecticut</strong>,<br />
attained a prominent place among the<br />
leading silk manufacturers <strong>of</strong> the United<br />
States by his business ability and enter-<br />
prise. He was a direct descendant <strong>of</strong><br />
one <strong>of</strong> the oldest Colonial families <strong>of</strong> New<br />
