3. II. Samuel,- h. and d. in Hartford; in early life a stone-mason; m. and had a family.
4. III. Horace =; a merchant in Hartford, Conn.; afterwards removed to Cape Cod, Mass.
He had a family; one of the sons, Capt. Horace B. Humphrey, a ship-captain for
many years, served under Admiral Dahlgren, as pilot, in the War of the Civil
Rebellion, rendering invaluable service by his intimate knowledge of the coast and

his skill; a man of great physical power. Another son, Lemuel, also a sea-captain
and of powerful frame, resides at Dennisport, Barnstable Co., Cape Cod, Mass.
A third son, William, is also a sea-captain; m. Sarah Hawes, of Dennisport, Mass.

5- Lemuel" Humphrey, [2] (Koah^) was born in Hartford, Ct., about 1794. He
married Mary Martin. Was a merchant at Hartford, where he died about 1881.

6. I. Henry Sauter,3 b. in 1816; m. Marcy Gregory. Family 3.
7. II. Frederic M.-'; served in U. S. Navy several years; d. at Hartford, in 1854; no family.
III. Cyprian N.^; m. ]\Irs. Louisa B. Davis. Family i.
IV. Marcy 3; d. at Hartford, Ct., very young.
V. Frances 3; m. Charles B. Smith, of Hartford, Ct. ; d. without issue.

"• Henry Sauter^ Humphrey, [6] (Zemue/,' Noah') was bom in Hartford, Conn.,
in i8i6(?); m. in i840(.?), Mary (dau. of Capt. Stephen and Mary Palmer) Gregory, of Guilford,
Vt. He was a merchant; removed to Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence Co., N. Y., in 1841; had a
large business and property; was Captain in Artillery; a prominent Mason and noted pedestrian.

13. II. Frank Gregory, • b. at Ogdensburg, N. Y., in 1846. Was a mechanical engineer;
was in China and Japan; served on board the U. S. Ship Lackawanna; also in
the mercantile service. Was si-\ feet four inches high, and of gigantic frame. He
died in Nov., 1883; had no family.
14- HI. Frederick,* b. at Ogdensburg, N. Y., in 184S; was a fine scholar; secretary of
People's Fire Insurance Co., at Trenton, N. J.; died, unmarried, at Philadelphia,
in 1870.
15. IV. James Lemuel, ! b. at Ogdensburg, N. Y., in 1S51; unmarried. Traveling salesman
for Messrs. Kelly, Mars & Co., of Chicago, 111.

'6. Cyprian N.^ Humphrey, [8] (Lemuel,^ Noah') married Mrs. Louisa B. Davis.
Went to California in 1849; returned to Ogdensburg, N. Y., where he died in 1859 (or i860).
