An Intergenerational Experience for All!<br />

What started as a venue for our local farmers and customers to sell/purchase local fresh<br />

fruit and vegetables has expanded! The Market has accomplished those goals and more …<br />

it has become an educational, recreational and social ga<strong>the</strong>ring for those in <strong>the</strong> local and<br />

surrounding communities.<br />

Do you want to learn how to make salsa? Sign up for Cornell Cooperative Extension’s<br />

workshop on <strong>Aug</strong>ust 8 (call 331-8415 … MUST pre-register) and make your own salsa to<br />

take home and enjoy! On <strong>Aug</strong>ust 29 <strong>the</strong>re will be a similar workshop on making corn relish.<br />

Our “Special Events” canopy on <strong>the</strong> back row has become a popular place to congregate! Kids have made planter<br />

boxers to take home. This workshop was led by Roy McCarthy, and he will be offering ano<strong>the</strong>r wood-working workshop<br />

on <strong>Aug</strong>ust 15. Again, kids MUST sign up (sheet at <strong>the</strong> market registration table or call 315-879-7420) so that we<br />

have enough supplies for all. On <strong>Aug</strong>ust 29 th kids can make bluebird houses. This workshop is being led by Seneca<br />

Meadows/Montezuma Audubon Center, and again, kids MUST sign up ahead of time.<br />

Also on <strong>Aug</strong>ust 15 <strong>the</strong> Master Gardeners’ will present a workshop on composting … is it time to learn this technique<br />

to rescue our environment? Show up for this invaluable information!<br />

On <strong>Sept</strong>ember 12 Dick Ransley will be <strong>the</strong> docent for an Historical walk down Main Street <strong>Sodus</strong>. Join Dick to take a<br />

walk down memory lane … Knapp’s Pharmacy with <strong>the</strong>ir delicious cherry cokes, <strong>the</strong> movie <strong>the</strong>ater, Gardner’s Clothing<br />

Store … a nostalgic time to enjoy on a short walk.<br />

Need to improve your lifestyle with a little low impact exercise? Over 50 market visitors participated in Creating<br />

Healthy Places Bike and Hike on July 18, and continuing in this vein we will sponsor a walk monthly. Meet at <strong>the</strong><br />

Market at 4 p.m. on <strong>Sept</strong>ember 5 and October 3 for Walk With a Doc. Doctor’s Arif Choudhury and Lory Ghertner<br />

will meet you <strong>the</strong>re. Sue Minier, RN and Darcy Davidson, Rn, will take your blood pressure before <strong>the</strong> walk begins,<br />

and you will receive a bottle of water to keep you hydrated on <strong>the</strong> walk. Upon return you will receive a nutritious<br />

snack and be entered in a drawing to receive a market bag full of vendor-donated fresh fruits and veggies.<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r way to help our environment is to donate your old eyeglasses to <strong>the</strong> Lioness Club of <strong>Sodus</strong> for recycling.<br />

Bring <strong>the</strong>m to market on <strong>Aug</strong>ust 22, and while <strong>the</strong>re, select from a variety of delicious home-baked cookies for a nominal<br />

fee to support <strong>the</strong> club’s local service projects.<br />

Bring your unused electronics to market on <strong>Aug</strong>ust 15 or <strong>Sept</strong>ember 19 for our Electronic Recycling project.<br />

Mike Boone will share garlic recipes at <strong>the</strong> market on <strong>Sept</strong>ember 5 th …be sure to pick up some of <strong>the</strong>se delicious and<br />

healthy recipes!<br />

All this, and more … to say nothing of <strong>the</strong> bountiful choice of local fresh produce provided by our faithful vendors!!!<br />

Be sure to plan on having your dinner at market … you can choose from barbeque chicken, pulled pork, hots or hamburgers<br />

at Pop’s House concession, or tostada’s, burritos, enchiladas … at El Rincon’s stand. Then sit and relax under<br />

<strong>the</strong> shade trees, and enjoy your meal with <strong>the</strong> company of your family and friends.<br />

Fruits of <strong>the</strong> Spirit<br />

Galatians 5:22-23<br />

But <strong>the</strong> fruit of <strong>the</strong> Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,<br />

faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things <strong>the</strong>re is no<br />

law.<br />

If you have a story to share about a good deed (ei<strong>the</strong>r a personal experience,<br />

or something you read about), please bring it to <strong>the</strong> church office for our<br />

bulletin board “Fruits of <strong>the</strong> Spirit.” Sandy Hall<br />

Sunday School Good Start Sunday<br />

For <strong>the</strong> 2012-2013 school year, our Sunday School program will<br />

kickoff on Sunday, <strong>Sept</strong>ember 9th. Adult Sunday School will be held<br />

at 9:30 am before worship service. Then after <strong>the</strong> Children’s Time in<br />

<strong>the</strong> worship service, approximately 11:15 am, <strong>the</strong> children will go<br />

upstairs for Sunday School. There will be a class for grades PK to 1;<br />

grades 2-5; and grades 6-8. As always, we have a nursery class<br />

available for those younger than 4 years old during <strong>the</strong> worship.<br />

mailed at <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>Aug</strong>ust with more details.<br />
