CAL YOUNG MIDDLE SCHOOL DECEMBER 2009
From the Principal
Cal Young Families,
At the end of this week, we conclude our first trimester. Some students will have
changes in their schedules while others will not. Please check with your child to see
if their daily schedule will be adjusted.
I thank all of you who attended parent/teacher conferences this month. If you were
unable to meet with a teacher, please contact them by email or phone to discuss your
child’s educational needs. Staying involved in your student’s learning is very important to his
or her success.
We appreciate everyone who donated food to our canned food drive. When Mr. Beard drove the
cans up to Food For Lane County’s collection site, the workers were impressed and surprised by our
contributions. In these tough economic times, it feels wonderful to give back to our community.
Our Site Council meets the third Wednesday of every month beginning in January. We welcome any
parent who would like to come and learn about our school wide projects. Currently we are wondering if
there is a teen topic you would like to learn more about. In the past, middle schools across the district
have offered seminars on internet and cell phone safety, how to recognize depression, drug/alcohol
awareness and what to expect in high school. Please email me if you have ideas or suggestions about a
concern you’d like to hear more about.
We continue to work with our students to make Cal Young a safe place for all. If you hear something
that we need to know, please contact Mr. Beard or me as soon as possible.
Finally, with the new trimester beginning on Monday the 7 th , make sure to take a note of our new
schedule. While the start and end times of school remain the same, the biggest change is that periods will
begin either a little later or earlier than before. The new schedule can be found on our website.
