THE 2006 <strong>ANNUAL</strong> <strong>DISTRICT</strong> <strong>CONFERENCE</strong><br />

Thirty-eighth Session<br />

Tuesday, August 1, 2006 ---- 9:00 A.M.<br />

Chairman: Dr. Jerry Pence, General Superintendent<br />

The thirty-eighth annual session <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> district conference <strong>of</strong> The Kansas District <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Wesleyan Church, a corporation was held August 1, 2006, at <strong>the</strong> First Covenant Church in<br />

Salina, Kansas.<br />

The conference was opened at 9:00 A.M. with a time <strong>of</strong> worship.<br />

General Superintendent, Dr. Jerry Pence, greeted <strong>the</strong> delegates and <strong>the</strong>n gave his<br />

State <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Church address. Included in that presentation were statistics indicating that<br />

<strong>the</strong>re are now over 194,000 worshippers in Wesleyan Churches in <strong>the</strong> US and Canada,<br />

over 411,000 worldwide. This represents an increase <strong>of</strong> 25% and 71%, respectively. There<br />

are 1,731 Churches now in <strong>the</strong> US/Canada, in 33 Districts. The bulk <strong>of</strong> Dr. Pence’s message<br />

was entitled “What kind <strong>of</strong> Church is <strong>the</strong> Wesleyan Church?” He answered <strong>the</strong> question<br />

with 7 affirmations. It is “a church relying on Biblical wisdom, reclaiming a heritage <strong>of</strong><br />

compassion, re-vitalizing congregations, reinforcing evangelism and church multiplication,<br />

re-affirming <strong>the</strong> holiness message, recruiting godly leaders, and resourcing kingdom ministries.”<br />

After Dr. Pence’s address <strong>the</strong> business session was <strong>of</strong>ficially called to order.<br />

The following items <strong>of</strong> business were conducted and actions taken by appropriate<br />

motions duly made, seconded, and adopted by <strong>the</strong> majority vote <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> delegates present:<br />

JP06:1. The conference bar was established to include <strong>the</strong> platform and <strong>the</strong> tables <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

main sanctuary area.<br />

JP06:2. The agenda was adopted as a guide for <strong>the</strong> orders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day and o<strong>the</strong>r organizational<br />

matters were approved.<br />

JP06:3. Tellers were announced by <strong>the</strong> District Secretary for distributing and counting<br />

ballots. The following were appointed: Distributing – David Rutler (head), David<br />

Deck, Frank Schrimp, Dan Carson, Allen Todd, Jessica Swisher, Brad Griffin,<br />

Kevin Fletcher. Counting – Joy Rothfuss (head), Barb Stewart, Glenda Graham,<br />

Becky Morehart, Marcell Hamel.<br />

JP06:4. Roll call ballots were cast. (See <strong>the</strong> <strong>CONFERENCE</strong> ROLL for list <strong>of</strong> delegates<br />

and record <strong>of</strong> attendance.)<br />

JP06:5. District Superintendent Rick Hudgens was introduced by General Superintendent<br />

Pence. He gave his report to <strong>the</strong> conference (included in <strong>the</strong> District Journal). The<br />

report was received with applause as an expression <strong>of</strong> appreciation.<br />

JP06:6. The report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> district treasurer was given. It was moved and seconded to<br />

adopt <strong>the</strong> report. The motion carried.<br />

JP06:7. The budget for <strong>the</strong> coming year and USF assessments for <strong>the</strong> coming year were<br />

presented.<br />

JP06:8. The report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> district board <strong>of</strong> ministerial development was given. The conference<br />

affirmed <strong>the</strong> ordination <strong>of</strong> William A. Ball, Marina Munoz, and David<br />

Swisher.<br />
