THE 2006 ANNUAL DISTRICT CONFERENCE
Thirty-eighth Session
Tuesday, August 1, 2006 ---- 9:00 A.M.
Chairman: Dr. Jerry Pence, General Superintendent
The thirty-eighth annual session of the district conference of The Kansas District of the
Wesleyan Church, a corporation was held August 1, 2006, at the First Covenant Church in
Salina, Kansas.
The conference was opened at 9:00 A.M. with a time of worship.
General Superintendent, Dr. Jerry Pence, greeted the delegates and then gave his
State of the Church address. Included in that presentation were statistics indicating that
there are now over 194,000 worshippers in Wesleyan Churches in the US and Canada,
over 411,000 worldwide. This represents an increase of 25% and 71%, respectively. There
are 1,731 Churches now in the US/Canada, in 33 Districts. The bulk of Dr. Pence’s message
was entitled “What kind of Church is the Wesleyan Church?” He answered the question
with 7 affirmations. It is “a church relying on Biblical wisdom, reclaiming a heritage of
compassion, re-vitalizing congregations, reinforcing evangelism and church multiplication,
re-affirming the holiness message, recruiting godly leaders, and resourcing kingdom ministries.”
After Dr. Pence’s address the business session was officially called to order.
The following items of business were conducted and actions taken by appropriate
motions duly made, seconded, and adopted by the majority vote of the delegates present:
JP06:1. The conference bar was established to include the platform and the tables of the
main sanctuary area.
JP06:2. The agenda was adopted as a guide for the orders of the day and other organizational
matters were approved.
JP06:3. Tellers were announced by the District Secretary for distributing and counting
ballots. The following were appointed: Distributing – David Rutler (head), David
Deck, Frank Schrimp, Dan Carson, Allen Todd, Jessica Swisher, Brad Griffin,
Kevin Fletcher. Counting – Joy Rothfuss (head), Barb Stewart, Glenda Graham,
Becky Morehart, Marcell Hamel.
JP06:4. Roll call ballots were cast. (See the CONFERENCE ROLL for list of delegates
and record of attendance.)
JP06:5. District Superintendent Rick Hudgens was introduced by General Superintendent
Pence. He gave his report to the conference (included in the District Journal). The
report was received with applause as an expression of appreciation.
JP06:6. The report of the district treasurer was given. It was moved and seconded to
adopt the report. The motion carried.
JP06:7. The budget for the coming year and USF assessments for the coming year were
presented.
JP06:8. The report of the district board of ministerial development was given. The conference
affirmed the ordination of William A. Ball, Marina Munoz, and David
Swisher.
