FATHER’S MESSAGE
“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in
everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you
in Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5: 16-18)
I am saddened to inform our community that Mrs. Venetta Jones, our
church Administrative Assistant since 2006, has submitted her resignation,
effective May 27, 2011. As is unfortunately the norm, there are several
false rumors floating around, created by a few who enjoy trying to find
scandal in everything; please pay no attention to this non-sense.
Venetta has served this parish through some very trying times and
undoubtedly been my right hand ever since being assigned to Holy Trinity,
and no one will feel this loss more than myself. Understandably, Venetta has decided that it is
time to take an extended vacation to Greece and then return to spend more time with her
husband and beautiful growing daughters. Furthermore, Venetta is also graciously going to
continue to give her time and talents to the Lord and our blessed parish, by volunteering two
days a week in our office upon her return in the fall; as well as continue with our dance troupe
and youth ministries!
We are grateful for Venetta’s pleasant presence in the church office, and her dedicated service
these past 5 years, and look forward to her continued service in Christ’s Vineyard. I pray the
Lord continue to bless Venetta and her family on their continued journeys of life. On behalf of
myself, the Parish Council and the community...Thank You!
With this being said, we are also happy to introduce Mrs. Eileen Dodd,
who will be taking over as our Administrative Assistant. Many of you will
recognize Mrs. Dodd, as she has been serving as our Bookkeeper for
over a year now. With this change in staff, we are also taking the
opportunity to combine the position of Bookkeeper with that of the
Administrative Assistant, bringing some financial savings to our parish, but
more importantly creating a greater amount of overlap in information and
duties. We feel that Eileen’s warm personality and her professional
knowledge of administration as well as her ever growing knowledge of our community, has and
will continue to make for a natural fruitful transition. On behalf of myself, the Parish Council
and the community...Welcome!
We look forward to working with both Venetta and Eileen for the Glory of God!
PHILOPTOCHOS
Just a reminder that Philoptochos is saving pop tops from aluminum cans to be given to the
Ronald McDonald House Charities. Ronald McDonald House uses the proceeds from the pop
tops to help defray the costs of running the two facilities in Orlando. Please bring your pop
tops to church; there will be a box set up in the classroom hallway for the Catechism students
to deposit pop tops from soda and soup cans and even tennis ball containers. The container will
be located in the Community Center Foyer when Catechism is not in session.
There is still wine available from the Autumn Wine Festival. If anyone is interested in procuring
wine for their homes, please contact Bea Pond for an updated list of available wines. All
proceeds will go to helping those in need within our parish and local community.
Please remember, we are collecting used cell phones to be donated in order for the USO to
provide long distance calling cards to the members of our armed forces overseas. In addition to
collecting these phones at church, we are distributing donation boxes throughout the Central
Florida area to collect phones in restaurants, businesses, community centers, etc. If you have a
location that you would like to provide a collection box, please contact Bea Pond or Flo
McMahon to receive a box and introductory letter.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our members and associate members for their
support during this past year. Each of you assisted in helping Philoptochos with its
philanthropic endeavors and its commitment to our blessed Holy Trinity. All of you helped to
make the Membership Tea, the Christmas Party, Holy Week and Pascha, hosting our
Metropolitan and sister churches, our wine festival, feeding the homeless through the Ephraim
Project and other projects successful. I always appreciate the ladies and all of their efforts, but
I especially appreciate the men that support us in each and every project. You make our jobs so
much easier. Thank you for always being there for us.
As my term as President of the Chapter comes to an end, I want to express my gratitude to
each and every one of you for the support and encouragement you have given to me. It has
been an honor to serve Philoptochos and our Holy Trinity Community. I wish our new president
and the Philoptochos board congratulations on their new term, and I ask each of you to give
them the support and love that you have shown me.
STEWARDSHIP
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MINISTRY RESOURCES
The Holy Trinity operating budget for the calendar year 2011 will be $652,978. Our Stewardship giving should support all the Parish
Ministries and the entire operating budget.
That would mean each family gives ONLY $32 per week
We should not depend on special affairs to meet our budget, for this is our direct responsibility. Stewardship places the responsibility
on us, for we are the recipients of God’s gifts and play an active role in perpetuating His work of salvation. The expenses of our Parish
are vital to our Church for: •Keeping in Touch With You •Maintaining our Buildings •Those Who Serve us •Worship and Education
•National Ministries Commitment
The quality of our service as a Parish, Metropolis, and Archdiocese depends directly on the level of your generous giving.
Dear Holy Trinity Parish:
PASCHA PICNIC
I wanted to wish all of you a Happy Easter and thank you for attending to this year's Pascha picnic. I hope that everyone
truly enjoyed themselves. It was a wonderful day filled with great food, fun, music, and Christian fellowship. I feel
especially thankful to be part of a church community with so many lovely people and I am proud to call all of you my
church family.
It is amazing how all of us come together at Holy Trinity to give of ourselves and our time for the benefit of the parish. I
especially wish to thank Sam Chatah whose generous gift of time, talent, and treasure made much of the day's events
possible. He was my right-hand man and partner throughout the event and I could not have done it without him. Thank
you, Sam!
Thank you also to Pete and Tula Maniatis for all of your help in the kitchen. As many of you know, Pete and his lovely wife
spend half of their year here with us in Orlando helping our church and the remainder of the year in Denver. Of course,
Nick Harbilas and the Cranias brothers did their part again this year by executing on Pete’s menu and got the food
prepared right on time as usual. Sam Chatah, Venetta Jones, Ted Dimas, several of our wonderful Goyans and dancers,
and many other parishioners showed up to serve the parish. They all did an amazing job and served our entire parish
within one hour. I'm not sure but that may be a record!
Christian Chicles, Matt Tavrides, Demetri Mavrofrides, and the Abatsas f amily did their thing by spending the night
outside preparing the whole Easter lambs. They came out great and tasted excellent. Thanks, guys!
A heartfelt thanks to Callie Cranias, Flora Milios, and Ellie & Mike Pampoukis for all of their dedicated help in selling this
year's tickets. Ellie and Mike did an excellent job with reservations. This is a difficult job and requires a tremendous
commitment of time and patience.
Elaine Harbilas, Diane, Semos, and their crew really worked hard at the bar providing us with ice cold beverages and
plenty of warm smiles. Katerina & George Papaioanou and Pauline & Chris Daskalakis made us the very best frappes
money can buy and boy were they delicious! The McMahon family once again showed up to man the dessert & coffee
table. They are a great family full of love, kindness, and dedication to this community.
A special thanks to Effie Hill, Jackie Cranias, Stephanie Tsompanidis, Rita McDonald, Athena Longwell, Vivian Dimeo,
and Joanne Anibarro for planning our Easter egg hunts and children's festivities. Everything was lovely and the children
had an excellent time at the picnic.
Finally, there were many families who made financial contributions to this year's picnic whom I wish to recognize,
including but not limited to the Tringas family, the Haun family, the Miliotes family, and the Filutowski family. Thank you all
for your generous gifts to the church.
On a final note, I feel especially grateful for the opportunity to serve all of you in our Lord's church. It has been my great
pleasure to do so. For all of those whose names I have forgotten, please forgive me. But, after all, God knows who you are
and that is what matters most.
Xristos Anesti and may God be with you all.
With love,
Ted Cranias

ONE WEEK INTENSIVE BYZANTINE CHANTING WORKSHOP
June 20-26, 2011
Do you want to become a better byzantine chanter? A one week intensive seminar will be offered under the direction
of John Michael Boyer, the Protopsaltis of the Metropolis of San Francisco. Four tracks will be offered: Beginner
Greek; Beginner English; Intermediate Greek; and Intermediate English. If you don’t know the basics of the 8
Byzantine musical tones or the “basic melodies”, you are a beginner. If you have a working knowledge of the 8
Byzantine musical tones, know most of the basic melodies, and/or can read either byzantine musical script or western
musical notation, you should sign up for the intermediate level.
The workshop will be held at St. Stephen’s Coptic Retreat Center in Titusville, Florida, (www.retreatcenter.suscopts.org) just
across the Indian River from Kennedy Space Center. If you are flying in, you have several area airports to choose from: Orlando,
Sanford, Daytona Beach and Melbourne – all less than an hour away. The retreat center is roughly equidistant from the Greek
Orthodox parishes of Orlando, Daytona Beach and Melbourne, Florida. (Note: no smoking or drinking of alcoholic beverages is
allowed on the campus of the retreat center. In Coptic worship, shoes are removed, women have their heads covered, men sit on
the left and women on the right.)
Early Registration (by May 14) for the workshop is only $500 for the week (includes materials and all meals). Regular
Registration (by June 1) is $600. Late Registration (by June 14) is $700.
Room rates at the Retreat Center (formerly a Holiday Inn) are only $40, $50 or $60 a night.
The $40 a night rooms face the parking lot, have a queen bed and accommodate up to two people.
The $50 a night rooms face the swimming pool, have either a king size bed with a sleep sofa or a double/double and
accommodate up to four people.
The $60 a night rooms face the river and Kennedy Space Center, and also have a king size bed with a sleep sofa or a
double/double and accommodate up to four people.
With four to a room, your cost of accommodations for the week can be as little as $75!
Registration is limited. Optional half day trips will include visits to the Astronaut Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Space Center
Visitor Center (www.kennedyspacecenter.com).
You may want to consider staying a few extra days for the final launch of the space shuttle (the retreat center is one of THE BEST
places to see a shuttle or rocket launch). Atlantis is currently scheduled to launch on June 29 (of course, subject to change). Room
rates are slightly higher (Sunday & Monday, June 26 & 27 - $60, $70, $80/night; Tuesday, June 28 - $100, $125 & $150/night) –
still way below any other accommodations anywhere in the area.
Registration will be from 2-5 PM on Monday, June 20 and a welcome reception and orientation will be held that evening
following 5 PM Vespers. The daily schedule will be: 8 AM Orthros; 9 AM Breakfast; Two AM Sessions; Lunch; Two PM
With My Own Church, members can submit online
registrations, edit their family or member information,
add a new family member, upload a family photo, and
more. All member submissions are reviewed by your
church administrator, who can accept changes into
your ParishSOFT database or reject them as needed.
My Own Church uses ParishSOFT’s ConnectNow technology, so you can log in to your church
database from a smart phone or any device with an internet connection.
With anytime, anywhere mobility like this, you can work remotely—even look up addresses or
important family information to support the ministry work that happens in locations like hospitals,
homes, shelters and more. For members who increasingly manage their personal business and
finances online, My Own Church connects them with the Church in new ways, giving them the
freedom to update the information at any time—all without paper forms or phone calls to the
parish office. Members can also access the online parish directory so you can stay in touch with
everyone and get the most current census information out there.
if you or your spouse have your e-mail on file with the front office, you can log into the
system and get started today! if you are having trouble, please e-mail the front office at mail@
htgocorlando.org and write your correct or current e-mail to add to the system!
