Young Accountant <strong>of</strong> the Year Award<br />

chartered Accountant <strong>of</strong> the Year Award<br />

<strong>Fiji</strong> institute <strong>of</strong> accountants invites written<br />

applications/nominations from interested<br />

members/employers for award <strong>of</strong> Young<br />

accountant <strong>of</strong> the year Prize or Chartered<br />

accountant <strong>of</strong> the year Prize 2012.<br />

Nomination Guidelines<br />

the competition judges will award the<br />

prize to the candidate, who in their opinion,<br />

has most excelled in his/her pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

role, has made significant contribution<br />

towards development <strong>of</strong> the accounting<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>ession in <strong>Fiji</strong>, has made significant<br />

contribution through their skills towards<br />

the society.<br />

the Judges’ decision will be final. the<br />

competition is open to any candidate who<br />

must meet the following basic criteria:<br />

• is a member if the <strong>Fiji</strong> institute <strong>of</strong><br />

accountants.<br />

• Is aged 30 years or less on 1st June<br />

2012 for the Young Accountant <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Year Award or is a current Chartered<br />

Accountant for Chartered Accountant<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

• is a citizen <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Fiji</strong> islands<br />

• is a resident <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Fiji</strong> islands<br />

Candidates need not necessarily work for<br />

accounting firms or in commerce. they<br />

may be employed in government, statutory<br />

bodies, education, non-government<br />

organizations or in any other appropriate<br />

role. the judging criteria remain identical,<br />

in almost all respects, to those adopted in<br />

previous years.<br />

the winning candidate, in addition to<br />

demonstrating overall excellence, will also<br />

need to have achieved a significant,<br />

specific goal, possibly, but not necessarily<br />

as per the following examples:<br />

• in comparison to his/her peers, has<br />

achieved early promotion to<br />

management or Partner level within<br />

his/her Organization.<br />

• Has made a creative and identifiable<br />

contribution to the advancement <strong>of</strong> the<br />

accounting Pr<strong>of</strong>ession in <strong>Fiji</strong>.<br />

• Has shown exceptional leadership<br />

within his/her organisation, in relation<br />

to, but not limited to, product, systems<br />

or procedural innovation.<br />

• Has demonstrated exceptional<br />

expertise in at least one specialist area<br />

<strong>of</strong> accounting, e.g. taxation or<br />

insolvency.<br />

Whilst this list is not exhaustive, it should<br />

serve to provide some indication <strong>of</strong> the type<br />

<strong>of</strong> candidate worthy <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Fiji</strong> institute <strong>of</strong><br />

accountants Young accountant <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

award or Chartered accountant <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

award.<br />

Who may nominate?<br />

Candidates may nominate themselves, be<br />

nominated by other members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Fiji</strong><br />

institute <strong>of</strong> accountants, or by their<br />

employer.<br />

self-nominated candidates must supply<br />

the names <strong>of</strong> two referees, and employernominated<br />

candidates must supply the<br />

name <strong>of</strong> a second referee, who may not be<br />

his/her employer.<br />

Candidate’s Case<br />

for the Award<br />

in order for the judges to fully consider the<br />

candidate’s achievements, the nominee<br />

must make a case for his/her chosen<br />

candidate, with sufficient verifiable detail<br />

to enable the judges to award the prize<br />

solely on the strength <strong>of</strong> the case<br />

presented.<br />

this written submission should contain<br />

details <strong>of</strong> advances made by the<br />

candidate’s employer, Clients or the<br />

accounting pr<strong>of</strong>ession that are attributable<br />

to the contribution made by the Candidate.<br />

it should also contain details <strong>of</strong> any<br />

Projects the Candidate may have been<br />

involved in, including how these Projects<br />

were planned and executed, the<br />

Candidate’s role in the Projects and the<br />

benefits to the Organisation that resulted<br />

from undertaking the Projects. the<br />

submission must not be too lengthy.<br />

The Curriculum Vitae<br />

the Candidate must submit a detailed<br />

Curriculum Vitae and any relevant<br />

supporting information, e.g. financial<br />

statements that will aid the judges in their<br />

decision. all such information will be<br />

treated as strictly confidential and<br />

returned to the nominating party after the<br />

use.<br />

For the Curriculum Vitae, the candidate<br />

must include, at a minimum, all <strong>of</strong> the<br />

information detailed below. any other<br />

information that may advance the<br />

candidate’s case may also be submitted,<br />

but may not necessarily have any bearing<br />

on the judge’s decision.<br />

• Full personal details – such as name,<br />

address, Membership category, age<br />

etc.<br />

• details <strong>of</strong> academic achievements<br />

and pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualifications<br />

• employment history – detailing career<br />

milestones, including details <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Candidate’s duties and dates relating<br />

to the Candidate’s appointment to<br />

Management positions, or when made<br />

a Partner.<br />

• details <strong>of</strong> any involvement with, or<br />

contributions to the <strong>Fiji</strong> institute <strong>of</strong><br />

accountants.<br />

Conditions <strong>of</strong> Entry<br />

the nomination form and supporting<br />

material must be completed and returned<br />

to the Fia secretariat (please send 3 copies<br />

each) no later than 4pm on 30th august<br />
