Berberich races for Children’s Hospital funding Andrew Berberich races with NASA (National Auto Sport Association) competing in the Porsche 944 Spec class. Sponsor companies Toyo Tires and Hawk Brake Pads offer contingency awards for placing first, second, or third in class. The contingencies can be used at the sponsor companies for parts, tires, racing protective gear and brake pads. Andy and his wife, Shawn, have decided to match his contingency earnings with a donation to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois. When asked why he decided to do this, he said, “We are very blessed. This is a way of giving back in gratitude for all God has given us.” The Children’s Hospital of Illinois is located within OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. It was established in 1990 and is the only full service hospital for children in Central Illinois. Each year, Children’s Hospital has over 5,000 admissions, 2,000 newborn deliveries, and 16,000 emergency department visits. The hospital is committed to children’s health and well-being and helping those who cannot find help elsewhere. The foundation was established on the belief that no child should be denied care because of their lack of ability to pay. Donations are used to deliver outstanding pediatric care; recruit top pediatric specialists; offer state-of-the-art technology; provide programmatic focus on treating medical needs of children; offer financial support programs for children’s families in need; foster an affiliation with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria; and to invest in research programs. Andy is hoping that people will follow his lead and agree to match his winnings and donate to the Children’s Hospital. Andy has donated $1200 from his first three race events of the season. He won First place in three races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc., earned two first place finishes at Putnam Park Road Course in Mount Meridian, Ind. and won first place in his most previous event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL.
