Because contemporary art never ceases to reinvent itself, the project is accompanied<br />
by a second phase consisting of exhibitions of cutting-edge contemporary art in various<br />
creative centres along the Côte d’Azur. These venues allow for a complementary<br />
or a different vision of art to that put forward by the historic exhibition that forms<br />
part of the first phase of this project. Another aim of this second phase is to<br />
examine the i<strong>de</strong>ntity of these contemporary art venues through the projects or<br />
events associated with them. These venues inclu<strong>de</strong>: l’Espace <strong>de</strong> l’Art Concret at<br />
Mouans-Sartoux, the Theatre <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> Photographie et <strong>de</strong> l’Image in Nice, The Carros<br />
International Contemporary Art Centre, the Malmaison Art Centre in Cannes, the<br />
Magnelli Museum, Ceramics museum in Val<strong>la</strong>uris, the Botox[s] Network consisting of<br />
The André Villers Photography Museum in Mougins, The Station, La <strong>Maison</strong>/galerie<br />
singulière, La <strong>Maison</strong> abandonnée/Vil<strong>la</strong> Cameline, De l’Art Publishers, the Catherine<br />
Issert, Depardieu, Sandrine Mons, Sapone, Sintitulo, Espace A Vendre and La Marine<br />
galleries, l’Atelier Soardi, l’Hôtel Windsor in Nice but also Documents d’artistes,<br />
Vidéochroniques, the Ambu<strong>la</strong>nte Gallery, Artmandat, Le Dojo, Le Module, no-ma<strong>de</strong>, <strong>la</strong><br />
Conciergerie and l’Ec<strong>la</strong>t, the Nice Cinémathèque, les Abattoirs –Chantier Sang Neuf in<br />
Nice, the Nice Urbanism and Architecture Forum, the Hartung Bergman Foundation in<br />
Antibes, the Bernar Venet Foundation in Le Muy, l’Atelier Expérimental in C<strong>la</strong>ns and<br />
the International Perfumery Museum in Grasse…<br />
This event is the sequel to The Côte d’Azur and Mo<strong>de</strong>rnity Exhibition 1918 – 1958,<br />
organized in 1997 by thirty or so establishments in the Alpes-Maritimes region.<br />
The catalogue, Contemporary Art and the Côte d’Azur - An Area for Experimentation,<br />
1951 – 2011 will be published by Presse du Réel Publishers / JRP Ringier and will<br />
be avai<strong>la</strong>ble in French and English. Expected release date: June 2011.<br />
The Contemporary Art and the Côte d’Azur Association are organizing an international<br />
conference on Thursday September 29 th , Friday September 30 th and Saturday October<br />
1 st in col<strong>la</strong>boration with Nice Sophia Antipolis University. For more information,<br />
