SERVICE SUMMARY
SCC Insurance Section is offering an annual service package for support and advice to
Academy Status Schools for all insurance matters, including legal requirements, claims
and risk management advice.

Standard Insurance and Risk Management Support Package
Due to current self-funding insurance arrangements, Somerset County Council (SCC) is
not able to continue to provide insurance cover to Academy Status schools in the same
way they do for maintained schools.
An Academy status school is responsible for ensuring adequate insurance is in place, and
this will need to be procured from the external insurers.
Although the Local Authority is unable to continue to insure Academy schools, these
schools are able to buy into services offered by the SCC Insurance Department.
An Annual Service Package with SCC Insurance Section is available which will provide:
- insurance support services, including guidance regarding insurance implications
for events and activities, property issues, assistance and advice on potential
claims and associated correspondence
- guidance and support on the day to day management of risks facing schools

We can also offer the above Support Package if you buy your own insurances through a
broker or consortium. They will provide a level of support and assistance but we can
offer additional support along with expertise and specialist knowledge of local authority
matters.
Insurers Support Service
In addition to the Standard Support Package, we can arrange an insurance quotation,
though the Local Authority scheme, from Zurich Municipal.
If this insurance is taken up by the Academy, a Insurers Support Service charge will
apply and the following additional services will be available:
- Facilitate purchase of Insurance package through Zurich Municipal, including the
acceptance of cover and management of policy documentation.
- Ongoing support and guidance relating to their insurance product.
- Information on existing cover.
- Point of contact with Zurich Municipal for mid term adjustments and the
implications for changes to the policy.
Fee Structure
Insurance and Risk Management Support Package = £270.00 pa
plus
Insurers Support Service = £2% of the net cost of the insurance package.
All fees associated with the Insurance Services offered here are currently recognised and
recoverable through the YPLA.
