SEYCHELLES
Like luminescent jewels they sparkle in the middle of the Indian Ocean: the archipelago
of 115 idyllic islands that make up the Seychelles – truly one of the world’s most precious treasures.
Here, away from the fast-paced commercial world, one can return to a simpler existence where
days and nights are long and the tranquil silences even longer.
The Seychelles is delicately dotted over an area of more than 455km2. 41 of these islands constitute
the oldest mid-oceanic granite islands on earth. Clustered around the main island of Mahé, and
neighbouring Praslin and La Digue, these are the “Inner Islands” and the cultural, economic and
tourist hub of Seychelles. Divided into five groups (the Amirantes, the Southern Coral Group,
Alphonse Group, Farquhar Group, and the Aldabra Group), the remaining 74 coral atolls and reef
islets form what is known as the “Outer Islands”.
With its mesmerising mix of a warm turquoise waters, powdered white sands, emerald green
thickets of coconut palms and exotic forest, and the most astonishing variety of fauna and flora,
this unspoilt scenic paradise has more natural and marine parks than anywhere else in the world –
almost 50% of the country’s total landmass, in fact.
The 81 000 Creole residents of these islands are known for their warm hospitality and friendliness,
vibrant culture and mouth-watering cuisine. Just another reason why the Seychelles has become
