Freestyle and Greco Season has Started. Please contact Michael Harris maharris@conroeisd.net of
Brad Funk bfunk@conroeisd.net for information. In brief:
Local tournament every weekend. – there are also tournaments in Dallas every weekend
This is a short season and ends May 18 th & 19 th at FS/GR State Championships in Colony, TX. May
4th is the qualifier for Team Texas at UTA.
For those not familiar with Freestyle Greco:
• Start on your feet and work for takedown, get takedown and have 12-15 seconds to turn
opponent and expose back for two or three points, if no exposure both kids get put on their
feet again
• Best of three periods – a period is won by end of time and winner by points or period ends if
wrestler is up by 6 or by pin. 30 sec rest in between periods
• There are lots of throws from the feet which can account for 3, 4 or 5 points
• In Greco you can’t use your legs or attack your opponents legs
• It’s a laid back season and fun for the kids once they learned the many throws and tilts
available and will help their takedowns for UIL
Have a terrific time in watching your wrestler excel. These styles will be a positive turning point in
any wrestler’s career.
