Responsibilities included:<br />

(1) Provision of full time comprehensive direct and supervised neuropsychological/<br />

neurobehavioral and medical psychology assessment and rehabilitation services (individual, family<br />

and group) in the context of comprehensive residential, transitional and outpatient rehabilitation<br />

programs for acquired brain injury, chronic pain, polytrauma, and various physical, psychological,<br />

adjustment and complex disorders. These were conducted in collaboration with Nathan D. Zasler,<br />

MD. Since 2005, services were more predominantly focused on residential and transitional<br />

rehabilitation services in the Tree of Life (TOL) facility. TOL is a 16 bed acquired brain injury<br />

residential neurorehabilitation facility (with 1-2 nearby community apartments) where the Holistic<br />

Habit and Self Rehabilitation model and methodology (developed by M. F. Martelli) is implemented<br />

and refined. This model and methodology is an integration of best practice strategies borrowed<br />

from general psychology, learning, clinical and behavioral psychology, neuropsychology,<br />

biopsychosocial theory and interventions, social psychology, industrial / organizational and human<br />

<strong>resources</strong> psychology and stress management and coping studies and literature. It is employed in<br />

direct supervision and general staff training and inservices and also adapted for general staff<br />

training in client stress management and behavioral management, co worker stress management<br />

and conflict resolution and more general life stress management.<br />

(2) Research, review, presentation, writing and publication activity covered a broad range of<br />

rehabilitation related areas reflective of a varied clinical practice. Topics ranged from assessment<br />

(including response bias) to treatment for various aspects of rehabilitation, neurobehavioral<br />

rehabilitation, chronic pain assessment and management, adaptation to neurological injury and<br />

impairment, <strong>disability</strong> assessment, adaptation to <strong>disability</strong>, neuropsychological assessment and<br />

neuroethics and forensic neuropsychology. Please see appended list of abstracts, short papers,<br />

Responsibilities included conducting and overseeing rehabilitation psychology and<br />

neuropsychology services to (a) VRCBVI resident clients (clients with visual impairment,<br />

adjustment and other mental health disorders and/or neurologic impairments), including<br />

assessment, individual and group cognitive-behavioral and behavioral and consultation<br />

interventions, and (b) staff (and occasionally, family members) psychoeducation on specific and<br />

general behavior and stress management and specific therapist and caregiver coping strategies<br />

presenting data in two areas: i) role of vulnerability factors in predicting adaptation to blindness and<br />

TBI, SCI, Neuromuscular, Musculoskeletal, Neurologic including Dementia, Chronic Illness,<br />

Adjustment, etc.) included:<br />

--Senior clinician - provide (4+ direct clinical hours per day), supervise, oversee individual, group,<br />

behavior management, neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation and consultation<br />
