HNM 13,067. Room 4, upper units (1983 season). H. 8.9, W. <strong>of</strong> head 1.7 cm.<br />

Animal bone. Nude female figurine with frontal stance with slightly separ<strong>at</strong>ed legs<br />

and arms th<strong>at</strong> are bent <strong>at</strong> the elbow and join across the front, <strong>at</strong> the waist; incised<br />

details <strong>of</strong> eyes, ears, arms, and pubic triangle.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Siva type, to which this figure belongs, is a local Cretan class <strong>of</strong> nude<br />

female figurine (Branigan 1972a, 1972b). Cf. Banti 1930-1931, p. 189, fig. 58:n<br />

(HagiaTriada); Branigan 1972a, pp. 71-72, fig. 1:13; 1972b, p. 23, fig. l:g (Siva).<br />

W. 1.7 cm. Hippopotamus ivory. Rectangular body with slight waist and arms<br />

bent <strong>at</strong> the elbows, with the hands meeting <strong>at</strong> the center <strong>of</strong> the waist; head with<br />

ridge for nose and incised eyes; fl<strong>at</strong> back; pierced from top <strong>of</strong> head to back <strong>of</strong> head<br />

for use as a pendant.<br />

Burned; ancient vertical crack <strong>at</strong> front <strong>of</strong> figure.<br />

body, <strong>at</strong> the waist; head missing; fl<strong>at</strong> back; pierced from top <strong>of</strong> head to back <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> break <strong>at</strong> the neck is ancient.<br />

W. 1.4 cm. Hippopotamus ivory. Fe<strong>at</strong>ureless body with rounded shoulders; short<br />

neck; almost circular head with incised eyes; fl<strong>at</strong> back; pierced from top <strong>of</strong> head to<br />

back <strong>of</strong> head for use a pendant.<br />

<strong>The</strong> back <strong>of</strong> the head was broken in antiquity, rendering the object useless<br />

as a pendant.<br />

cm. Shell: fossil Spondylus gaederopus (spiny oyster), lower valve (worked). Smooth,<br />

rounded form with two sections separ<strong>at</strong>ed by a waist ("fiddle-shaped" figurine).<br />

Surface very eroded.<br />
