Batt-Eri Lithium Iron Phosphate Telco Battery System
Most of the present GSM base station applications 4 units of 12V VRLA batteries are serially
connected and form a group of battery which are parallel connected into 3 or 4 groups. In this
situation 48V 300Ah/400Ah energy storage capacity can be provided as for energy back-up.
In the high power-outage region applications VRLA batteries make many cycles. Due to their limited
cycle life the VRLA batteries are aging by losing their “Ah” capacity. GSM Operators need to replace
VRLA batteries very frequently, this situation increases OPEX of the operator.
SOLUTION = BATT-ERI
Batt-Eri system, is 48V/100Ah Lithium Ferrite Phosphate Energy Storage System (ESS)” designed by
Ericom. During power outage LFP-ESS is discharged. In case of “frequent but short” (

MCU32 controls the LFP charge and discharge contactors.
CBM15 card reads the voltage and temperature values of the LFP cells.
CBM15 reads the voltage and temperature values in 1sn period and send these data to
MCU32.
Batt-Eri System is made up of Lithium Ferrite Phosphate (LiFePO4-LFP) cells which are made for 48V
based Telecom Energy Storage System. “AIM Energy Technologies Co.” (Affiliated R&D Company of
Ericom) has designed hardware and software control algorithms are used as for battery management
system.
Batt-Eri System Mechanical Structure:
Page 3
Most of the “Telco type LFP ESS” producers make the system in monolith case. Unlikely, with
the “modular” mechanical design of Batt-Eri; system could easily be transport to the site and
easily installed in the application area. Batt-Eri system could be transport air freight too
(according to Air freight rules, Lithium batteries cannot be air transported with heavier than
35 Kg boxes)
In Batt-Eri modular structure; 3.2V LFP Cells are grouped in block of 5 units and these 3
blocks positioned are side to side and serially connected to reach 15 cells (48V)
In front of the three LFP blocks, “Battery Management System” unit has been installed.
Metric-8 terminal compatible, barrier type power connectors are suitable for cable
connections in the GSM sites. The plastic barriers are prevent the short-circuit during
installation.
The current limitation parameter of Rectifier for 3 groups of 48V/300Ah VRLA batteries.
Current drain is set to 0,15C and which will be 45A. 45A charging current can charge the LFP
in 2,5 hour. When the LFP is charged VRLA batteries will be take into float charge.
Batt-Eri System Remote Monitoring & Control :
Page 4
In the Batt-Eri BMS unit there is a GSM/GPRS module.
GSM/GPRS module is connected to MCU32 card.
MCU32 sends “keep alive” message to remote monitoring server and basic alarms and
voltage data will be sent in this data package
Keep alive message period is set by the server (1 sec to hours)
Remote Monitoring & Control engineer can initiate an online connection to site over the
server. In this mode MCU32 can send more detailed parameters to server in every 1-5 sec.
Remote Monitoring & Control engineer can manage the server. If it is needed battery group
currents and charging parameters can be adjusted by the engineer.
Server could download the version updates to MCU32 card’s SD Card flash memory and
MCU32 install the new version firmware onto its memory itself
Why you need Batt-Eri?
Page 5
Batt-Eri system can extend the operation life of GSM base station battery backup system
Batt-Eri can work 45-50 o C and decrease climatization needs for base station shelter
System can lower VRLA junk formation.
By the Remote Monitoring & Control system, the total energy back up unit can be monitored
and periodic maintenance can be made.
With this solution “Total Operation Cost of The GSM Operators” will be decreased.
