There is reason to be sceptical of the numbers given by the banker and
historian Nathanson because they contain a number of errors. However,
they are used for lack of other sources.
All revenue figures are in Rigsdalers. There are gaps in the data:
from 1766 to 1771 and from 1785 to 1800. The total toll figure for
1804 is uncertain.
The tolls included in the toll total were from Denmark, Norway, the
Duchies and the Sound. Excise duties ('consumption') included duties
on wine, salt, brandy and tobacco. The town of Elsfleth was not
included in the figures for the period 1747-65.
