EXPERIENCE HOW 

MUCH AQUOS CAN DO. 

1080P RESOLUTION The formula for HDTV is quite simple: the higher the 

picture information, the higher the picture quality. That’s why our AQUOS 

Full - HD televisions are designed to fully display all available signals. 

With its 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, the resolution is double that of conventional HD 

televisions. The 1080P televisions in the new AQUOS generation have the 

further advantage that their image is created progressively. The lines are not 

transferred as half-frames as before, but row after row as frames. HDTV in a 

higher resolution can’t be experienced. (HD1, XL1, XD1)

Full-HD 1080P Full HDTV resolution in progressive format 

100 Hz The Full - HD panel uses a newly developed 100 Hz double-frame drive 

that recreates images with twice the number of frames as conventional systems, 

resulting in a high response speed of 4 msec. for moving scenes. 

Digital Video Broadcasting For receiving digital programmes without an additional set-top box 

• DVB-T receives digital terrestrial programmes 

• DVB-C receives digital cable programmes 

• DVB-S receives digital satellite programmes 

HD-ready These televisions conform to the HD-ready criteria (EICTA) 

for the display of HDTV signals. 

RGB plus Background lighting with four instead of three colours – the 

additional crimson-red enables the display of especially natural colours 

100 Hz The Full - HD panel uses a newly developed 100 Hz double frame drive that 

recreates images with twice the number of frames as conventional systems, resulting 

in a high response speed of 4 msec. for moving scenes. The system detects 

the points of motion change and expresses one picture with twice the frames. This 

enables clear reproduction of motion as well as smooth and natural scenes, whether 

the movement is left to right or top to bottom. Sports programmes and content with

DYNAMIC CONTRAST A high contrast ratio is necessary to reproduce vivid 

images with enhanced lighting and shadowing. AQUOS provides a high contrast ratio 

delivering more realistic and blacker blacks even in dark night scenes of movies. The 

contrast ratio also delivers blacker blacks and whiter whites even in brightly lit rooms, 

providing crisp, clear reproduction of LCD TV images. 

Dynamic contrast is a measurement of the contrast range when the backlight can 

be adjusted to optimize the picture based on content black levels. Dynamic contrast 

is limited by the display’s native contrast and can compromise a picture’s original

Kameyama Plant: Plant No.2 (right) has been in operation since 2006. 

In August last year, Sharp opened its second production facility for LCD TVs at 

Kameyama in Japan. The new Kameyama II plant sets strict standards as far as protecting 

the environment is concerned, as Kameyama I already does. This is a world 

fast in that it is the rst eighth-generation LCD factory. 

Kameyama – modern production plant with advanced environmental technology 

Since August 2006, Sharp AQUOS Full HD LCD TV sets for the global market have 

been in production there. About one-third of the electrical energy needed for production 

is generated in combined heat and power plants run on natural gas. Waste heat 

is recovered and used in air conditioning, for heating water and for producing steam. 

One of the world’s largest PV systems assists the CHP (cogeneration) plant in producing 

energy. Furthermore, all the waste water is collected from the production process 

and recycled with water puri cation technology. The plant is an “environmentally 

improved factory” with highly advanced technology that Sharp always strives for.

SHARP LCD TVS – ECO-AWARENESS 

WITH DISTINCTION. 

Many Sharp products now have national and international environmental labels. Our 

SH1 LCD TV series was the world’s rst generation of TVs to be awarded the EU’s 

Eco-label. 

TV appliances with the Eco-label have: 

- reduced energy consumption during use and standby, 

- few harmful substances, 

- designs for improved durability, easy disassembly and recycling, 

- user information for environmentally friendly use 

Besides technological highlights such as Advanced super view and Black TFT LCD, 

the new LCD TVs are outstanding for their environmentally sound attributes in conformity

What is the European Eco-label? 

The conservation of nature is in the common interest of many companies and consumers. 

The aim of manufacturing innovative products that harmonise with environmental 

factors is also encouraged by the European Commission. Since 1992, the EU 

Commission, in co-operation with its member states, has established a 

certi cation scheme for products and services: the European Eco-label. 

The European Eco-label, also called the “Flower”, 

- is a voluntary eco-label scheme 

- can only be met by approx. 30% of the products per category on the market 

(thus guaranteeing that the selected products meet strong environmental criteria) 

- has been awarded to more than 300 licensed companies on more than 

2,000 products 

- covers several product categories (PCs, refrigerators, TVs, washing machines, etc.)
