Falcioni brings almost 20 years of experience with national and international technical and policy-making bodies in the industrial sector to this newly created position. Prior to joining CECED, he was the European Affairs Manager for In- desit Company. Falcioni has an Electric Engineering degree (summa cum laude) from the Uni- versity of Ancona (Italy). Gerus as ETNO’s Regulatory Affairs Manager Victoria Gerus has been appointed Regulatory Affairs Manager of ETNO, the European Tel- ecommunications Network Operators’ Association. Gerus was the former Head of Regulatory Strategy for ETNO member company eircom of Ireland. In this function, she closely monitored and analysed national and EU regulatory developments and formulated eircom’s strategic response. She also participated in ETNO working groups and as an Executive Board alternate. In addition, Gerus worked for nine years as a telecoms specialist at the consultancy McKinsey & Company and also served as a senior analyst at Ovum. She holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University in the US. Hammarström heads Diplomat PR’s Brussels office Susanne Hammarström is to head Swedish Communication Firm Diplomat PR’s newly- opened Brussels office. Diplomat PR Brussels opened on 1 May 2009 and provides public affairs and communications services to mainly Swedish companies and organisations. Ham- marström has 10 years’ experience of European public affairs in Brussels, from communications consultancies APCO Europe and The Centre, as well as from the European Commission. LERU appoints new Secretary General The League of European Research Universities (LERU) has appointed Professor Kurt Deket- elaere as its new Secretary General. He will take over from Dr. David Livesey, who will retire after four years in the role. Deketelaere will serve a renewable five-year term. In his capacity as Secretary General, he plans to emphasise the need to maintain or increase the volume, effectiveness and efficiency of public and private investment in research and development (R&D) and in innovation. Deketelaere is full Professor of Environmental and Energy Law at the K.U.Leuven and Honorary Professor of Climate Change Law at the University of Dundee. Juan Álvarez-Vijande elected Chairman of ecoDa The board of the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations (ecoDa), has elected its new Chairman, Juan Álvarez-Vijande (Executive Director and cofounder of the Spanish Insti- tuto de Consejeros – Administradores), for the two coming years. Álvarez-Vijande has more than 18 years of experience in boardroom management as Non-Executive Director (among others as Independent Director), as Executive Director, advisor to Boards on Good Corporate Governance Practices as well as Advisory Board member.
