De Ruyt becomes Permanent Representative of<br />

Belgium to the EU<br />

Jean De Ruyt has been appointed Permanent Representative of Belgium to the Europe-<br />

an Union as of 29 August 2007. Prior to his position as Ambassador to the EU, Mr De<br />

Ruyt served as Press Attaché and Secretary for the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa and<br />

Algeria respectively. Mr De Ruyt has also held positions as Permanent Representative<br />

of Belgium to Warsaw, NATO, and the United Nations. He has taught Public Law at<br />

Leuven University and has published extensively on various <strong>European</strong> issues.<br />

Raul Mälk new Estonian Permanent Representative to the EU<br />

Ambassador Raul Mälk joined the Estonian Foreign Service in 1992. Since then he<br />

has served in various senior positions in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and<br />

led a number of Estonian delegations in international negotiation processes. He has<br />

served as Estonia‘s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, to the Republic of Ireland and<br />

to Portugal. In 1998-99 he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Most recently he held<br />

the position of the Director General of the Policy Planning Department at the Estonian<br />

Foreign Ministry.<br />

Luik appointed Estonia‘s Ambassador to NATO<br />

Ambassador Jüri Luik has been in the Estonian diplomatic service since 1990. He led<br />

the negotiations with Russia over the withdrawal of Russian troops and, ten years later,<br />

the accession negotiations to NATO. In 1993 and again from 1999 to 2002 he served<br />

as Minister of Defence, and in 1994 as Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he kept<br />

until the following year. He has previously also served as Estonia‘s Ambassador to the<br />

Benelux countries and NATO as well as Estonia‘s Ambassador to the United States,<br />

Canada and Mexico.

Seeuws becomes Deputy Permanent Representative of<br />

Belgium to the EU<br />

Didier Seeuws has been appointed Deputy Permanent Representative of Belgium to the<br />

<strong>European</strong> Union as of 1 August 2007. Mr Seeuws is a career diplomat who, prior to his new<br />

position as Ambassador, served as an Advisor to the Permanent Representation of Belgium<br />

in charge of relations with the <strong>European</strong> Parliament, and Attaché to the Belgian Embassy<br />

in Washington D.C. conducting work on economic and investment-related issues, and a<br />

spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Belgium.<br />

Pierre Pribetich joins the <strong>European</strong> Parliament<br />

Mr Pierre Pribetich, was appointed member of the <strong>European</strong> Parliament, joining the<br />

Socialist Group. He was previously Deputy mayor of Dijon, Vice-Chairman of Di-<br />

jon Urban Area Community Council, and Chairman of SEMAAD (Mixed Investment<br />

Company for Town Planning in the Dijon Urban Area). He was also a Member of the<br />

Socialist Party‘s National Council from 2005 to 2007 and the Socialist Party‘s national<br />

delegate for Housing, during the same period. In addition, from 1994 to 2007, Mr<br />

Pribetich was a lecturer at the University of Bourgogne..<br />

Tomaszewska appointed to <strong>European</strong> Parliament<br />

Mrs Tomaszewska entered the <strong>European</strong> Parliament on 30 August 2007, and is a<br />

member of the Union for Europe of the Nations Group. A member of Solidarity from<br />

1980, she later became a member of the Council in the department of Social Policy<br />

under the government of Lech Wałesa. From 1998-2002 she was the Chairman of the<br />

Advisory Committee for the Supervisory Board on Pension Funds, and since 2002 she<br />

has been a member of the Insurance Council, and a member of the Advisory Council<br />

on the use of Public Funds for the Disabled (until 2004). She is the vice-Chairman of<br />

the society of UNFE Market Capital and member of the Board for the Polish Union of<br />

Catholic Women.<br />

Figueiredo elected President of AECM<br />

José Fernando Figueiredo has been elected President of the <strong>European</strong> Mutual Guarantee<br />

Association (AECM) at the end of June 2007. Previous to this appointment, Mr Figueiredo<br />

served as the Executive President of Norgarante-MGS and Lisgarante-MGS, and as CEO of<br />

SPGM, the ‘holding’ of the Portuguese Mutual Guarantee Scheme for SME. He was also a<br />

member of the Strategic Committee of Change Partners and of the Independent Agrocapital<br />

SCR. Mr Figueiredo’s background also includes membership of the Executive Network of<br />

REGAR, the Latin-American Credit Guarantees.<br />

Marcel Daniëls new Vice-President at Teva Europe<br />

Marcel Daniëls has just joined Teva Europe as Vice-President Government Relations,<br />

reporting to the organisation’s President and CEO, Gerard van Odijk. Mr Daniëls has<br />

25 years of experience in senior corporate affairs and government relations positions<br />

for major companies such as Raychem (now Tyco), Exxon Chemical International,<br />

Alcan Aluminum and recently Merck Sharp & Dohme. Mr Daniëls will be setting up<br />

Teva’s EU representation office in Brussels and will be coordinating Teva’s <strong>European</strong><br />

government relations activities.

Sebastian Gerlach joins Microsoft Brussels office<br />

Sebastian Gerlach joined the Microsoft Brussels Legal and Corporate Affairs Office<br />

on July 1st, 2007. Mr Gerlach will be running institutional relations in Brussels, with<br />

a particular focus on managing the relationship with the <strong>European</strong> Parliament. He<br />

previously worked with Kreab, a Brussels-based Public Affairs and Communications<br />

Consultancy. Over the last few years he has advised various international companies<br />

among other things on EU company law and corporate governance policy, financial<br />

services, competition and environmental issues.<br />

Ciminera joins Blueprint Partners<br />

Blueprint Partners has expanded its senior team with the appointment of Carla Cimin-<br />

era, who will head up the ICT Division from October 2007. She was previously Director<br />

of the <strong>European</strong> Internet Foundation for six years where she coordinated and ran a<br />

network of Members of the <strong>European</strong> Parliament and industry representatives. Her<br />

experience also includes working at the EU Commission, Ambrosetti, the <strong>European</strong><br />

Savings Bank Group, Goldman Sachs, The Economist/<strong>European</strong> Voice, Singapore<br />

Airlines, the Italian Foreign Affairs Minister, Valentino, and Armani.<br />

Edouard Toulouse joins ECOS<br />

Edouard Toulouse has joined ECOS, the <strong>European</strong> Environmental Citizens‘ Organisa-<br />

tion for Standardisation. Mr Toulouse will facilitate the practical implementation of<br />

EU energy efficiency policies via standardisation and coordination of initiatives sup-<br />

ported by <strong>European</strong> green NGOs with the Directive on the eco-design of energy using<br />

products. Prior to assuming this position at ECOS, Mr Toulouse worked in several<br />

French associations as Energy and Climate Change Officer. He is a trained engineer<br />

who graduated from Ecole Centrale Paris with a Masters degree in environmental<br />

management from Ecole des Mines de Paris.<br />

Andrée Jallon joins Athenora Consulting<br />

The EU affairs consultancy firm Athenora Consulting has further expanded its advisory team<br />

by recruiting Andrée Jallon as Senior Advisor. André Jallon worked as Renault‘s head of<br />

office in Brussels, as a civil servant in the French Ministry, and as a national expert in DG<br />

Competition. She will most notably advise Athenora‘s clients on competition cases.<br />

Simona Urbaityte joins CEEP<br />

The general secretariat of the <strong>European</strong> Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation<br />

has appointed Simona Urbaityte as their new Policy Officer. Her activity fields will<br />

mainly cover energy, the internal market and Services of General Interest. She gained a<br />

Bachelors and Masters of law in Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania, specialising in<br />

Law and Public Administration. Before joining CEEP she worked with the DG Presidency<br />

of the <strong>European</strong> Parliament
