Hawaii System Selects <strong>Ex</strong> <strong>Libris</strong> Discovery and Delivery Solutions<br />

Hawaii’s 10-member consortium chose <strong>Primo</strong> to provide an advanced<br />

discovery experience for researchers<br />

which consists of 10 universities and colleges, h<strong>as</strong> adopted <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ex</strong> <strong>Libris</strong> <strong>Primo</strong> ® discovery<br />

and delivery solution, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Primo</strong> Central Index of scholarly electronic resources <strong>the</strong> bX<br />

Article Recommender, and <strong>the</strong> SFX ® OpenURL link resolver, replacing Serials Solutions 360<br />

Link in a number of member institutions.<br />

With <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ex</strong> <strong>Libris</strong> Voyager ® integrated library system already in use, <strong>the</strong> consortium h<strong>as</strong><br />

added <strong>Primo</strong> to provide its students and faculty with a superior discovery platform. Users<br />

will now be able to access library services, such <strong>as</strong> requests, loans, and account updates,<br />

directly from <strong>the</strong> search interface.<br />

“Adopting <strong>Primo</strong> will enable <strong>the</strong> libraries of <strong>the</strong> University of Hawaii to expose our diverse<br />

collections more e<strong>as</strong>ily and <strong>the</strong>reby help our students and faculty identify <strong>the</strong> most valuable<br />

resources for <strong>the</strong>ir research,” commented Kim Nakano, <strong>as</strong>sistant university librarian at <strong>the</strong><br />

University of Hawaii at Manoa. “We concluded that <strong>Primo</strong> best suits our users’ rapidly<br />

evolving and tech-savvy needs. We were very impressed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ex</strong> <strong>Libris</strong> project team,<br />

whose strategic vision and commitment to our requirements have been unwavering.”<br />

With its diverse member institutions, UH considered <strong>Primo</strong>’s built-in capabilities for consortia<br />

particularly important. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Primo</strong> configuration options range from centralized control to<br />

total independence for member libraries. With <strong>the</strong> latter configuration, each library can<br />

select its own settings for search options, result boosting, <strong>the</strong> user interface, <strong>the</strong> calculation<br />

of item availability, and delivery options. UH will <strong>the</strong>refore be able to create a common<br />

discovery platform while preserving institutional branding and preferences. <strong>Primo</strong> also<br />

enables each member institution to integrate <strong>the</strong> discovery layer with its local systems and<br />

digital repositories.
