However, God’s Word is clear. As men, we are called to be spiritual champions, not only in our homes, but in the world that Christ has called us to serve. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Because of this, it is important for the men of our congregation and community to rally together and strengthen one another in our faith. Sometimes, the way of Christ can be seen as wimpy or weak. Nothing is further from the truth! Let’s figure out together what it means to rise up to the challenge that Jesus, our Commander and King, sets before us! Men’s Breakfast —Thursday, May 12 6:30-8:00am, South Campus Business Administrator Hope Lutheran is seeking a dedicated individual, committed to the mission of our church as followers of Jesus… “to encourage all people to know the love of Christ.” Responsibilities include providing overall direction for property, legal, financial and business affairs. Knowledge of financial aspects of a nonprofit organization helpful. This is a full-time position with benefits. Children’s Ministry Leaders Hope Lutheran is seeking several dedicated individuals with a heartfelt passion to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with children 3-yrs-old through 5 th grade. Leaders help coordinate and organize Hopekids programs, inspiring every child to develop a personal relationship with Jesus, fulfilling Hope Lutheran’s mission… “to encourage all people to know the love of Christ.” This is a part-time, PAID position. As a Children’s Ministry Leader, you MUST be available to work either Wednesday evenings from 5:00- 7:00pm OR Sunday mornings from 8:30am-12:00pm. Global Connections Attention Lutefisk Lovers When: Thursday, April 28 Time: 4:00-7:00pm Where: North Campus Mission Jamaica is sponsoring a lutefisk and meatball dinner Thursday, April 28 , 4:00-7:00pm, North Campus Fellowship Center. Lutefisk will be prepared by Sons of Norway chef extraordinaire Carrol Juven. The meal will also include potatoes, vegetables, and our own home made lefse. Cost will be $13.00/person, and tickets will be available for purchase at both campuses Sunday, April 17, Wednesday April 20, Sunday, April 24, and Wednesday April 27. For further information, call Arne @ 361-5441. Children of Jamaica Thank You Thank you “Lefse Eaters” for making a positive difference in the lives of over 1000 children in Jamaica! The money you donated to purchase lefse was used by Mission Jamaica to help the children in the following ways: 68,000 $ Jamaican ($800 US) was used by J’Abode (Jamaican Habitat for Humanity) to purchase materials to help build a home for Shelia Anderson and her five children whose house had been destroyed by fire. In addition, we used 34,000 $ Jamaican ($400 US) that had been originally designated to replace Mission Jamaica tools to complete this project. 59,500 $ Jamaican ($700 US) was given to Westhaven Children’s Home to provide for the 86 physically and mentally challenged orphans they serve. 51,000 $ Jamaican ($600 US) was given to Hope Valley Experimental School in Kingston to help mainstream physically challenged children in their primary school (grades 1-6). This school serves over 800 children. Hope Valley Experimental School in Kingston Children from Callaloo Mews Basic School in Kingston 68,000 $ Jamaican ($800 US) was given to Callaloo Mews Basic School in Kingston. This school provides a “head start” for 49 children ages 3-5 in one of the poorest areas of the city. This is a community of 500 people whose unemployment rate is over 90% and only one home in the area has a bathroom. 59,500 $ Jamaican ($700 US) was given to Angie Simms’ Breakfast Feeding Program in Kingston. Angie has started feeding a hot breakfast to 160 children in her poor neighborhood because she saw many of the kids coming to school hungry. (Angie Simms is principal of Callaloo Mews Basic School.) Compassion SOS Event is an opportunity for Hope Lutheran to rescue mothers and babies struggling to survive. It is a way to provide mothers in desperate need, their at-risk babies and toddlers, and pregnant women, with urgent physical and spiritual care. It is a critical intervention delivered via the loving care of Compassion International’s Child Survival Program (CSP) through local indigenous churches. You will have an opportunity to pledge $20 a month to support this program. The donor will not be sponsoring a specific mother, but will receive a letter from the church that hosts the CSP that the donor is supporting; newsletters; video; pictures of CSP mothers and their babies. The holistic approach shows the way of Christ to each mother encouraging them to bring up their children in a godly way. 3
