design expertise. This on-trend make-up is ready to wear!
Pioneers in the worlds of make-up and fashion, The Body Shop and London
College of Fashion share similar values and beliefs. Renowned as the original
ethical beauty brand, The Body Shop has led the industry with its on-trend,
cruelty-free make-up. Belonging to the University of the Arts London, London
College of Fashion is the only UK college specialising in fashion education,
research and consultancy. Its esteemed alumni includes William Tempest,
Jimmy Choo, Patrick Cox, Emma Hope, Linda Bennett (LK Bennett), Jacques
Azagury and up-and-coming make-up artist Nikki Palmer, amongst others.
The college has put issues of sustainability at the heart of what it does, setting
up the Centre for Sustainable Fashion in 2008 to connect industry and education
and find transforming solutions that balance ecology, society and culture.
Ann Massal, International Brand and Innovation Director, The Body Shop,
comments, “In the first of an exciting series of partnerships with the world
of fashion, The Body Shop has joined forces with London College of
Fashion. Our new limited-edition ‘Brush With Fashion’ Spring Make-Up
Collection is a true collaboration. The Body Shop has integrated
award-winning cruelty-free brush technology and ethically-sourced
ingredients into its make-up products; London College of Fashion
has created a truly covetable packaging design. Our expertise in
colour has provided the perfect Spring shade palette; their
make-up artists have created the catwalk-inspired looks.”
Professor Frances Corner OBE, Head of College, London College
of Fashion says, “We are proud to be allied with The Body Shop,
an iconic British brand whose beliefs and principles truly echo our
own. This first-ever collaboration has been an exciting experience
for all, involving London College of Fashion students across a
range of disciplines including fashion design, fashion illustration,
styling, make-up, photography and fashion promotion. We welcome
The Body Shop commitment to supporting and nurturing
British-trained creative talent and see this as the start of a
longer-term partnership.”

its own brush, this perfectly portable collection can be used anytime,
anyplace. It’s never been simpler to brush on Spring’s fashion-driven
colours – this is make-up artistry made easy!
Warm your complexion with Illuminating Face Base and Lightening
Touch; add a glow with Tailored Cheek Tint; brush on gorgeous eye
This unique make-up collection looks as hot in your bag or boudoir
as it does on your face thanks to its exclusive packaging design
created by a London College of Fashion star of the future
The design was selected following a joint The Body Shop and
London College of Fashion student competition. The winning artwork
was created by Katarina Voloder, a German 21 year-old BA (Hons)
fashion illustration undergraduate. Her amazing design is built
around a make-up sketch of an eye, lips and make-up brush, giving
the packaging a strong fashion-forward feel. This is combined
with a starburst fan effect with splashes of colour to convey the
chic shades of the new collection. The whole limited-edition range
is branded with ‘University of the Arts London, London College of
Fashion’ to clearly communicate the partnership and make this
make-up a must-have collectable.
FASHION-FORWARD DeSIgN
Katarina Voloder says,
“My style has an illustrative quality, blending
graphic design with fine art. As always, my
main inspiration for the ‘Brush With Fashion’
design was shape, and for this project I only
had one word on my mind: BRUSH. This led
me to create a brush-stroke motif, which
allowed me to keep a simplicity to the
design whilst enabling it to stand-out from
the crowd. I am thrilled that my creation
was chosen to feature across the ‘Brush
With Fashion’ packaging. I have always
admired The Body Shop ethical, sustainable
and cruelty-free approach to make-up and
brushes, so it’s particularly exciting that my
work is now a key part of this innovative,
new, on-trend collection.”
Ann Massal, International Brand and
Innovation Director, The Body Shop, adds,
“We chose Katarina’s design because it’s
edgy, fierce and fashion-forward. We’re
delighted that her design will be gracing the
‘Brush With Fashion’ packaging, adding a
cutting-edge chic to our innovative make-up.”
The Body Shop has used its extensive colour expertise to create a
sensational Spring palette. eyes yes are dressed with either gorgeous
matte shades of chocolate, fawn and apricot or pearlised hues of
white, pink and silver complemented with dramatic matte black;
lashes are defined; cheeks are rose-tinted; and lips are dressed
in glossy shades of pink and peach.
Nikki Palmer, the make-up artist for the ‘Brush With Fashion’
show and a London College of Fashion alumna, says, “In contrast
to the minimalist, neutral shades of Autumn/Winter, Spring 2011
will be a celebration of brights, with no colour left unrepresented.
Blush pink and peach will play a key role, balanced by a strong
accent on the eyes as lids are turned all manner of shades.
It’s about creating a look that is graphic and playful, with bold
textures that can be mixed and matched.”
The fresh hues of the ‘Brush With Fashion’ palette are taken to
the next level by London College of Fashion. Make-up artist Nikki
Palmer, and students from the Make-up Faculty have used the
‘Brush With Fashion’ collection to create four key looks. Come in- in-
store for your free makeover with The Body Shop make-up artists
to learn how to recreate your favourite look at home.
And check out the eye-catching ‘Brush With Fashion’ poster in
your nearest The Body Shop ® store. It features a powerful image
of a model holding a giant The Body Shop make-up brush and
wearing a creation from William Tempest, a London College of
Fashion graduate and one of Britain’s hottest fashion talents.
The striking strapless dress was part of William’s debut London
Fashion Week Show, which secured his position as a rising
fashion star.
William Tempest comments, “I’ve long been
a fan of The Body Shop pioneering ethical
and environmental values and I know from
first-hand experience that London College of
Fashion has an inspirational, future-friendly
approach to fashion so I was delighted to
hear that they’d joined forces. The ‘Brush With
Fashion’ make-up collection is not only totally
on-trend for spring but is also sustainable and
cruelty-free, two issues that are very close to
my heart. The dress used in the window poster
is one of my favourite designs as it was the
first look on the catwalk from my debut London
Fashion Week show – it has an energy and
vibrancy that keeps it looking interesting and
current today.”
