The added value of research for your organisation
What does a visitor want? How can I attract the right visitors? These are questions the research department has the answers to or is
presently searching for. This department within Amsterdam Marketing is proactively engaged in research, development and market
information. And thus, the department has ‘big data’ at its disposal due to the extensive collection of details about domestic and foreign
visitors in Amsterdam, the surrounding Metropolitan Area and Noord-Holland. They also know their way around various knowledge
networks, using these to trace relevant information for the organisation, businesses and cultural institutions.
Online knowledge
Much information is available online through www.amsterdammarketing.org. This is where you can consult the Tourism Barometer and see
the key monthly figures for the city: attractions, museums, incoming international flights, accommodation, etc. The Tourism Barometer is
also available for 7 other destinations. Organisations or ventures that are partners of Amsterdam Marketing can log in and make all kinds
of comparisons, such as comparing your sector performance with those in the same or an otherwise related industry, or even in a different
(foreign) city and/or region that’s included in the Tourism Barometer. There are also several fact sheets and research reports available for
download.
Specific questions
The research department can answer more specific questions and perform analyses by request. Much valuable visitor information is
traceable by requesting a printout and/or analysis for specific questions relating to your own company or organisation. For more extensive
advice, for example, for visitor development, feasibility, mobility of visitors and positioning questions, you can also contact the research
department advisors. Some examples of recently released specific research and assignments include: Amsterdam Visitors Profile 2012,
Meetings & Conferences Key Figures Analysis, municipalities of Noord-Holland Visitors Report, analysis of public transport use amongst
international visitors, tourism barometers for specific destinations, quantification and forecasting scenarios regarding visitors in order to
create effective policy relating to the construction of hotels, etc.
Projects
Project coordinators are present within the department who can give shape and form to larger, more complex development and
implementation processes. Examples are the projects ‘Visit Amsterdam, See Holland’ in 11 municipalities and two provinces in the
Amsterdam Metropolitan Area; the design and development of the MICE Meets Metropolis project in six municipalities, two provinces and
the area around Amsterdam-Utrecht; or a design for European quality criteria regarding hospitality in European cities, in anticipation of the
new European guidelines and quality labels.
