SLOVENIA___________________________________________ Narodna in Univerzitetna Knjiznica - National and University Library Mission Statement: National and University Library collects, documents, preserves and archives the written cultural heritage of the Slovenian nation and country. It provides ready access to its collection of human knowledge and culture of the past and current Slovenian generations, and thus makes it available to the citizens of Slovenia and other countries. By fostering effective partnerships with Slovenian and international libraries, it makes the world‛s intellectual and cultural heritage accessible to everyone. It advances new knowledge by offering support and guidance to its users to enable them to locate, critically assess, manage and use information resources in different formats, forms and languages. With its collections and services, it strives to support research, teaching and learning at the University of Ljubljana, and other higher education institutions. It serves as a centre of knowledge for the encouragement and promotion of lifelong learning, for raising cultural and educational level, and for the development of the information literacy skills of the Slovenian people. Through research, development and education in the field of librarianship, it provides leadership in the development and delivery of library services across the country, and strives to make significant contributions to theory and practice of library and information science. Vision Statement: The complexity of the environment in which NUK carries out its operations and predictable or possible unpredictable changes occurring over the coming decades demand a clear vision of the future library operation. In the first place, we strive to provide the widest possible access to Slovenian and world's intellectual, scientific and cultural heritage. NUK library collection and other information sources should become available to everyone on his/her virtual bookshelf through electronic access. We will maintain and preserve our library collection, and we will take the initiative in digitisation of the existing library material and in collection and preservation of information sources in electronic formats. In so doing, we will continue to work in partnership with other libraries and relevant organisations at national and international level. We aim to provide users with ready access to the basis of global knowledge and to facilitate its use. We aim for close collaboration with our users and the wider environment, and we will develop innovative services to meet their needs and expectations. We aim to become
more visible in our environment, and to make the Slovenia's citizens aware that NUK is important, useful and indispensable because it makes a major contribution to current and future cultural and intellectual development of our nation. We strive to bring NUK closer to the citizens - to every individual - to find and visit us, and use our services regardless of where and when he/she decides to do so. The existing services will be reorganized towards digitisation, decentralisation and distribution. In order to create new possibilities for their development, we will continue to collaborate and develop partnerships with different national and international organizations. Building effective partnerships will bring benefits to our users and contribute to the development of cost-effective supply of our products and services. Through the integration of its library collection into the national and international network of cultural and scientific sources, NUK becomes a part of ever more distributed network of knowledge. We will continue to operate as a central and primary resource for education, research and leisure of Slovenia's citizens. SOUTH AFRICA_____________________________________ National Library of South Africa Mission Statement: The National Library of South Africa is a custodian and provider of the nation's key knowledge resources. We are mandated by the National Library of South Africa Act to collect and preserve published documents and make them accessible. We ensure that knowledge is not lost to posterity and that information is available for research. SPAIN_____________________________________________ Biblioteca Nacional de España – National Library of Spain Mission Statement: The BNE aspires to be an essential centre of reference for research into Spanish culture. According to its Bylaw approved by R.D. 1638/2009 of 30 October, its main functions are as follows: To compile, catalogue and conserve bibliographic assets produced in any language of the Spanish state, or in other languages, for the purposes of research, culture and information.
