<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

ALIC, the Archives Library Inf<strong>or</strong>mation Center, exists to provide staff <strong>and</strong> researchers<br />

ready access to the background <strong>and</strong> context inf<strong>or</strong>mation necessary to describe, <strong>or</strong>ganize,<br />

<strong>and</strong> access the essential evidence in NARA rec<strong>or</strong>ds.<br />

National Oceanographic <strong>and</strong> Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)<br />

<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> the NOAA Library <strong>and</strong> Inf<strong>or</strong>mation Services (LISD) is to ensure the<br />

delivery <strong>of</strong> scientific, technical, <strong>and</strong> legislative inf<strong>or</strong>mation to users. The library's users<br />

include NOAA staff, general public, academia, industry, <strong>and</strong> other government agencies.<br />

The principal resource f<strong>or</strong> accomplishing this mission is a research collection with a<br />

comprehensive coverage <strong>of</strong>:<br />

hydrographic surveying (from 1820)<br />

oceanography, mete<strong>or</strong>ology, <strong>and</strong> hydrology (from 1870)<br />

living marine resources (from 1970 with selected coverage from 1870), <strong>and</strong><br />

mete<strong>or</strong>ological satellite applications (from 1960)<br />

Smithsonian Institution <strong>Libraries</strong><br />

<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

As the largest <strong>and</strong> most diverse museum library in the w<strong>or</strong>ld, Smithsonian Institution<br />

<strong>Libraries</strong> (SIL) leads the Smithsonian in taking advantage <strong>of</strong> the opp<strong>or</strong>tunities <strong>of</strong> the<br />

digital society. SIL provides auth<strong>or</strong>itative inf<strong>or</strong>mation <strong>and</strong> creates innovative services <strong>and</strong><br />

programs f<strong>or</strong> Smithsonian Institution researchers, scholars <strong>and</strong> curat<strong>or</strong>s, as well as the<br />

general public, to further their quest f<strong>or</strong> knowledge. Through paper preservation <strong>and</strong><br />
