While setting up these stations, evidence of possums was noticed with bite and<br />

scratch marks seen on some tree trunks. There was also some evidence of<br />

rabbit activity noticed on bare ground where weed spraying had taken place.<br />

57. Operational results<br />

Since the establishment of the 15 control sites back in April 2006, follow up<br />

visits have been on a monthly basis where possible. The bait take has waned<br />

and there is much less evidence of possum activity within the bush or in the<br />

surrounding buildings and stadium.<br />

During the 2007/08 year there was approximately 8kg of Pestoff fed through<br />

these bait stations.<br />

58. Discussion<br />

As there is very little forest type of this nature remaining on the <strong>Wairarapa</strong><br />

plains, it is great to see that this small remnant has been covenanted and fenced<br />

for the general public to enjoy.<br />

The overall condition of the bush is excellent so good things should start to<br />

happen with pest plant and animal control taking place.<br />

Within the fenced area there is now a replanting programme taking place.<br />

Quite a number of native plants have been planted by Ally O’Neil and others.<br />

59. Costs<br />
