Leeann Wadsworth, senior; Dalton Kramer, junior; and Jehanne McCullough, sophomore; along with Jr. NAD advisor Linda Stoltz, flew to the California School for the Deaf Riverside for the four-day Jr. NAD Conference the weekend before Thanksgiving. It was an amazing experience as participants learned how to be better leaders and to improve the Jr. NAD chapter at MSD. There were eight workshops led by Deaf people of various backgrounds on important topics such as diversity, attitude, the power of media, and assertive leadership. All the workshops really taught us how to be better leaders and especially how to help Jr. NAD at MSD. On the last day of the conference, the General Assembly was held; delegates (Dalton and Jehanne from MSD) voted on or against proposals brought up by the people at the Round Table. There were four special projects on the table including the Pageant and the George Veditz video project. The Round Table made proposals for the delegates to debate and vote on at the General Assembly. It was a really interesting experience! Jehanne was elected to be on an Action Plan Committee of Jr. NAD which will continue until May 2012 when the proposals will be brought to the NAD conference. The Action Plan committee has to prepare those bills to ensure that they are passed at the NAD conference, and she is ready to work on them! On the last day, it was really hard to leave everyone and the State of California, but it was definitely worth the trip as we all improved our leadership skills tremendously with many ideas for the Jr. NAD chapter at MSD!
