If you want a stronger burn effect then all you have to do is to increase the opacity of the layer. If you roll the mouse cursor over the Layers palette on the right you can preview the result of adding a Burn Bottom 1/2 effect at the default 40% setting plus a further Burn Top 1/3 effect, but with the opacity set to 100% instead of 40%.
