CHRISTMAS DO-OVER LUNCHEON
The Saratoga County Office for the Aging
Home Delivered Meal Program is once again
sponsoring a Christmas Do-Over Luncheon
on Wednesday, April 10 th at 12:00pm at the
Center. Menu includes: Tossed Salad, Stuffed
Chicken Breast, Mashed Sweet Potatoes,
Green Beans, Dinner Roll, Strawberry
Shortcake, Milk and Coffee. After lunch we
will have our regularly scheduled afternoon
of Bingo. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Sign up in the dining room no later than
noon on Monday, April 8 th .
CANDY LUNCHEON TRIP
Join us on Monday, April 15 th or Tuesday
April 16 th for a special treat as we head to the
Park Avenue Confectionary shop in
Mechanicville. Our fun begins with candy
making demonstrations followed by your very
own chance to try your hand at making these
delectable delights. Save some room for lunch
at The Ugly Rooster in Mechanicville. This
members-only trip is free with lunch on your
own. Sign-up begins after the April Business
Meeting. Your refundable $5.00 will reserve
your seat. Van leaves at 10:45am.
BOWLING TRIP
Our monthly Bowling Party will be held on
Thursday, April 25 th at 10:30am at Spare Time
Bowl on Route 9. The cost of $5.00 gets you 2
games, shoes, pizza and soda. Non-members
are welcome for the unsubsidized cost of
$8.50. The cost for non-bowlers enjoying
lunch is $2.00. See you there.

TURNING MEMORIES INTO MEMOIRS
The Clifton Park/Halfmoon Library,
in partnership with the Center, is
again sponsoring a workshop, Turning
Memories into Memoirs, here at the Center.
This five-session workshop will provide
advice and encouragement as well as actual
writing practice. Each class consists of
writing exercises, discussion of “the practice
of writing”, book suggestions, handouts and
suggested assignments. Local writer and
poet, Mary Sanders Shartle, is our instructor.
Sessions will be held on April 9 th , 16 th , 23 rd ,
30 th and May 7 th , from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
Workshop fee is $25.00 however; the Clifton
Park/Halfmoon Library will subsidize
$10.00, bringing the cost to $15.00. The
Center will subsidize the workshop for
members only, reducing the fee for
members to just $10.00. Class size is
limited so please sign-up at the Center.
Members and non-members are welcome.
FREE HEALTH SCREENING CLINIC
The Saratoga County Office for the Aging
in partnership with the Saratoga County
Public Health Services will be sponsoring a
free Health Screening Clinic on Wednesday,
April 24 th from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Screenings will include: Glucose,
Cholesterol and Blood Pressure.
Contact the Center at 371-3892 for
an appointment.
CARD STAMPING WORKSHOP
Our Card Stamping Workshops let you make
your own beautiful greeting cards. Come get
in on the action and create great cards for
less than it would cost you for one at the
store. Our next class will be held on April
19 th at 10:00am and 12:30pm. All supplies
are provided. The cost is just $2.00, due at
time of sign-up. The Center also offers an
informal weekly card stamping session
every Friday at 12:30pm for all interested
stampers!
A NIGHT OF LINE DANCING
The Center will host a community evening
Line Dance on Saturday, April 6 th from
7:00pm to 10:00pm with Kevin Richards.
Admission for those wishing to dance is $7.00.
Non-dancers are free. Dance starts at 7:00pm,
with doors opening at 6:00pm for dinner. So
come hungry and help support the Center.
INFORMAL JEWELRY MAKING CLASS
Join us on Tuesday, April 30 th at 12:30pm for
a not so formal Jewelry Making Class. Janet
Carroll and Doreen Draiss have teamed up to
be your not so formal instructors. This month
we will be making a necklace and pair of
earrings. The cost is $3.00. You must sign up
at the front desk by April 23 rd . Seating is
limited. Come have a great time.
DEFENSIVE DRIVER COURSE
On April 29 th from 9:00am to 4:30pm, AARP
will again offer a Driving Course here at the
Center. This class is now full with a waiting
list. Participants may want to sign-up in the
dining room for lunch at the Center, or bring
a bag lunch with them.
LET’S SAY “HELLO”
The Center had many new
people march in and join our
membership. Joining our
wonderful organization this
past month were Chuck LaFountain, Elizabeth
DeLucia, Carmelo Cavoli, Arthur and Sylma
LeBlanc, Dianne Halton, Bill Shumway, Jessie
Hinchcliff, Cecelia Quinlan, Rosemary Blond,
Pat and Connie Crowe, Paula Purcell and
Barbara Duchowny. It is great to welcome
each of you to the Center. A reception will be
held for all members following the April 3 rd
Business Meeting. Please plan to join us
ALZHEIMER SUPPORT GROUP
Our Alzheimer Support Group will be meeting
on Thursday, April 18 th at 12:00pm.
Caregivers group together and begin their
session with a complimentary luncheon
provided by the Center. Those with
Alzheimer’s/dementia enjoy lunch together,
before participating in a group activity. If you
would like to attend, or know of someone who
would be interested in attending, please call
the Center to sign-up. Non-members welcome.
FALL PREVENTION SEMINAR
Join us on Wednesday, April 17 th
at 11:00am for a Fall Prevention
Seminar lead by Dr. Dudick. Falls
in and around the home are one of the leading
causes of fractures in those over 60. What is
sad is that most of these falls could have been
prevented. Come learn what you can do to
keep you and your family safe from a break
that could change your life.

WHO’S RUNNING THIS SHIP ANYWAY?
That depends on you! This June, the entire
membership of the Center will elect new
officers to represent us and carry out the
business of the Center. Doreen Draiss has
been appointed as Chairman of the
Nominating Committee by President Ruth
Smalley. Committee members have now been
chosen and are seeking nominees for the
various offices and for taking nominations
from the membership. If you would like more
information on the offices and duties, would
like to make a nomination, or would be
interested in holding a position, please call the
Center and let us know.
DO YOU CARE?
On Thursday, May 2 nd the Hilton in Clifton
Park will be hosting a fundraising luncheon
for Care Links. Seating starts at 12:00pm
with a luncheon menu that includes: Three
Bean Minestrone Soup, Chicken Francaise
with Rice Pilaf and Vegetable Medley,
Strawberries and Ice Cream for dessert, and
choice of Coffee or Tea. The cost is $20.00
with all proceeds to benefit the Care Links
Interfaith Community Caregivers Program.
Care Links matches volunteers with seniors
living in Halfmoon, Clifton Park, Malta and
Mechanicville, to help seniors remain
independent at home. Services include
companionship, respite care, transportation,
household help and friendly phoning.
Tickets are available at the Center.
MAY IS SENIOR CITIZENS’ MONTH
The month of May has been declared Senior
Citizens’ Month. The Town of Halfmoon is
supportive of its’ senior population and
appreciates all that they contribute to the
town. On Wednesday, May 1 st , The Town of
Halfmoon will honor the seniors of our
community at a special Town Board
Meeting to be held at the Town Hall at
2:00pm. All senior members of the
community are invited to attend. At this
meeting the Town of Halfmoon will present
the Center with a check, which is used to
support our programs and activities. Let’s
show the Town how much we appreciate
their support by attending this special Town
Board Meeting. Please note that our
regularly scheduled Business Meeting on
May 1 st will be held at the Halfmoon Town
Hall at 1:00pm.
HERMITS
Everyone is invited to join the HERMITS
(Happily Eating Regular Meals In Town
Somewhere) on Thursday, April 11 th for lunch
at Shirley’s Café in Jonesville. Van will leave at
11:30am. Your $5.00 refundable deposit will
hold your reservation on the van. You may
also drive yourself. Lunch is on your own.
LET’S HIT THE ROAD
Our trip to Manchester Vermont on
Wednesday, April 24 th to tour the Hildene
Estate, will begin boarding at 8:45am and
leave at 9:00am. Please park on the side and in
front of the Historical Society. You will board
in the order that you signed up. Travelers
heading to the Azalea Festival in Norfolk
Virginia on April 25 th will board at 6:15am
and leave at 6:30am. Our May 22 nd trip to New
York City to visit/tour the Ground Zero
Memorial is now full with a waiting list as is
our June 11 th train trip to North Creek then
luncheon cruise on Blue Mountain Lake and
tour of Camp Sagamore. Looking for an
overnight! Join us for a trip to
the Finger Lakes July 25 th - July
27 th . This trip includes 2 nights
lodging at the prestigious Keuka
College located on Keuka Lake. Meals, wine
touring, boat cruise, Belhurst Castle, shopping
at the Windmill (Amish), and much more! Signup
begins April 3 rd . The cost for all this is just
$200.00 for members and $250.00 for nonmembers.
Single rooms are an additional
$75.00. Sign-up has begun for our 4 day 3
night trip to Colonial Williamsburg from
September 24 th to the 27 th . The cost is $425.00
for members and $450.00 for non-members.
Trip includes a visit to Berkeley Plantation,
Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement,
Yorktown Victory Center and Yorktown
Riverwalk Landing. Our Lobsterfest is set for
August 14 th at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, MA.
Octoberfest is set for October 29 th at Villa
Roma in Callicoon, N.Y. More details to follow
in upcoming newsletters. If you would like to

CHANGE IN BUSINESS MEETING LOCATION
Our May Business Meeting will be held at the
Halfmoon Town Hall on Wednesday, May 1 st
at 1:00pm. Sign-ups will be done after the
town hall meeting. Please plan to join us.
