Magician Jim Snack <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clifton</strong> <strong>Park</strong>-<strong>Halfmoon</strong> Public Library<br />
<strong>Clifton</strong> <strong>Park</strong>, NY – Families with children ages 4 and up are invited to a Magic Show<br />
with Jim Snack <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clifton</strong> <strong>Park</strong>-<strong>Halfmoon</strong> Public Library on Tuesday, December 28 <strong>at</strong> 2<br />
pm. This is a drop-in program, no registr<strong>at</strong>ion is required. Children need to be<br />
accompanied by an adult.<br />
Prepare to be dazzled. Oohs and ahhs, along with mirth and merriment are<br />
guaranteed as magician Jim Snack performs amazing fe<strong>at</strong>s <strong>of</strong> sleight <strong>of</strong> hand.<br />
Teen Movie Mar<strong>at</strong>hon <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clifton</strong> <strong>Park</strong>-<strong>Halfmoon</strong> Public Library<br />
<strong>Clifton</strong> <strong>Park</strong>, NY –Teen Movie Mar<strong>at</strong>hon-Marx Bro<strong>the</strong>rs, a drop-in program for young<br />
adults in grades 6 and higher, will be held Wednesday, December 29, beginning <strong>at</strong> 10:30am<br />
with <strong>the</strong> showing <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> Marx Bro<strong>the</strong>rs Films, including Horse Fe<strong>at</strong>hers, Duck Soup,<br />
Go West. Light lunch will be served, and <strong>of</strong> course popcorn and soda. Films will run until<br />

New York St<strong>at</strong>e Library Launches Teen Video Challenge<br />
N<strong>at</strong>ionwide Contest for Teens to Cre<strong>at</strong>e Summer Reading Video Promotion<br />
Albany, NY-The New York St<strong>at</strong>e library, in conjunction with <strong>the</strong> n<strong>at</strong>ionwide<br />
Collabor<strong>at</strong>ive Summer Library Program (CSLP), has announced <strong>the</strong> “You Are Here” Teen<br />
Video Challenge 2011, a completion for teens to get involved with reading and <strong>the</strong>ir public<br />
library’s summer reading program.<br />
For 2011, <strong>the</strong> St<strong>at</strong>e Library and CSLP are taking a new approach to involve teenagers<br />
in promoting summer reading and public libraries. The Teen Video Challenge is a CSLP<br />
sponsored competition with prizes for teens th<strong>at</strong> cre<strong>at</strong>e <strong>the</strong>ir st<strong>at</strong>e’s winning video to<br />
promote reading, libraries, and <strong>the</strong> 2011 CSLP slogan, “You Are Here.” A New York St<strong>at</strong>e<br />
teen with <strong>the</strong> winning entry will be awarded $250 and his or her library will receive $100.<br />
“Teens across New York St<strong>at</strong>e are invited to cre<strong>at</strong>e a 30 to 90 second video using <strong>the</strong><br />
slogan ‘You Are Here’ to promote summer reading <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir local libraries,” says Karen<br />
Balsen, coordin<strong>at</strong>or <strong>of</strong> Summer Reading <strong>at</strong> New York Libraries. Balsen, who is also <strong>the</strong> New<br />
York St<strong>at</strong>e represent<strong>at</strong>ive for <strong>the</strong> CSLP and chair <strong>of</strong> its PR and Marketing Committee<br />
proposed <strong>the</strong> idea to <strong>the</strong> CSLP to encourage teen’s particip<strong>at</strong>ion in <strong>the</strong> cre<strong>at</strong>ive process.<br />
“The idea is to involve teens in thinking about <strong>the</strong> benefits <strong>of</strong> summer reading before and<br />
during <strong>the</strong> summer months. It’s also an opportunity for New York St<strong>at</strong>e teens to showcase<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir cre<strong>at</strong>ivity and have <strong>the</strong>ir ideas heard before a n<strong>at</strong>ional audience.”<br />
