<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2011</strong> - <strong>2012</strong><br />
participated in the familiarisation visit to India for Young<br />
Parliamentarians in April <strong>2011</strong>. The number of ITEC<br />
positions for Swaziland increased from 26 to 41 in <strong>2011</strong>-12.<br />
Tanzania<br />
The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, paid a successful<br />
State Visit to Tanzania from 26-28 May, <strong>2011</strong>, at the<br />
invitation of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania,<br />
Mr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.. He held official discussions with<br />
the Tanzanian President. The Prime Minister announced a<br />
Line of Credit of US$ 180 million to Tanzania for the<br />
development of water supply projects in Dar-es-Salaam and<br />
coastal regions of Tanzania, and a grant of US$ 10 million<br />
to support socio-economic and educational projects. The<br />
Prime Minister also gave a commitment to establish a<br />
Vocational Training Centre in Zanzibar and announced a<br />
grant of US$ 1,00,000 for the purchase of laboratory<br />
equipment for schools in Zanzibar. Three agreements--<br />
Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and<br />
Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income<br />
(DTAA); Joint Action Plan between National Small<br />
Industries Corporation Ltd (NSIC) and the Small Industries<br />
Development Organization (SIDO); and a Joint Venture<br />
Agreement between the National Social Security Fund<br />
(Tanzania), Ministry of Health and Social Welfare<br />
(Tanzania), and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited (India)<br />
for the setting up of a super specialty hospital in Dar-es-<br />
Salaam--were signed during the visit of the Prime Minister.<br />
A five-member delegation, led by Shri R K Gupta, Chairman<br />
and Managing Director of WAPCOS Ltd, visited Tanzania<br />
from 2-7 November, <strong>2011</strong>, and held discussions with the<br />
Ministry of Water for the extension of existing water supply<br />
schemes and construction of new water supply schemes in<br />
Dar-es-Salaam and Chalinze.<br />
A three-member delegation, led by Dr B C Gupta, Secretary,<br />
Department of Food and Public Distribution, visited<br />
Tanzania from 31 May-2 June, <strong>2011</strong>, to attend the 39th<br />
International Sugar Organisation Council Session in Arusha.<br />
A six-member delegation, led by the Tanzanian Deputy<br />
Minister of Water, Mr Gerson H Lwenge, visited EdCIL when<br />
they were in India during the period 25-30 July, <strong>2011</strong>, to<br />
discuss the training of Tanzanian water engineers.<br />
Prof Makame Mbarawa, Tanzania's Minister of<br />
Communication, Science, and Technology, visited<br />
Hyderabad to attend the second India Africa Partnership<br />
Summit during the period 11-13 October, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
A Tanzanian delegation, led by Mrs Joyce Mapunjo,<br />
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Industry and<br />

Marketing, and Mr Mike Laiser, Director General, Small<br />
Industries Development Organisation (SIDO), visited the<br />
National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) in October<br />
<strong>2011</strong> to discuss the areas of cooperation within the<br />
framework of the Joint Action Plan between NSIC and<br />
SIDO that was signed during the State visit of the Prime<br />
Minister to Tanzania between 26 and 28 May, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
A 22-member delegation, led by Mr Samuel J Sitta, Minister<br />
for East African Cooperation, visited Bengaluru from 9-15<br />
November, <strong>2011</strong>, to attend the 11th Meeting of the Council<br />
of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Rim-Association for<br />
Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC).<br />
The Secretary General of the East African Community, Dr.<br />
Richard Sezibera, visited India, to attend the Meeting of<br />
Regional Economic Communities from 8-9 November, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
An Engineering Export Promotion Council of India<br />
delegation visited Tanzania from 2-4 April, <strong>2011</strong> and held a<br />
buyer-sellers meeting at Dar-es-Salaam.<br />
Also, 36 Indian companies, under the aegis of ITPO,<br />
participated at the 35th Dar-es-Salaam International Trade<br />
Fair during the period 28 June-8 July, <strong>2011</strong>. An Indian<br />
agribusiness delegation (under FICCI) visited Tanzania from<br />
August 15-17, <strong>2011</strong>, and conducted a round table discussion.<br />
During the year, 165 slots were provided to Tanzania under<br />
the ITEC Programme. Till 30 November, <strong>2011</strong>, TC Division<br />
had accepted 177 nominations from Tanzania. All 18 longterm<br />
scholarships provided by ICCR were utilised while 18<br />
candidates have so far participated in the courses under<br />
IAFS, including one for the CV Raman Fellowship<br />
(administered by FICCI).<br />
During the period January to October <strong>2011</strong>, India's exports<br />
to Tanzania amounted to US$ 1,254.6 million while imports<br />
from Tanzania amounted to US$ 151.4 million.<br />
An eight-member Qawwali Group, led by Shri Ghulam<br />
Qadir, visited Tanzania from 14-21 September, <strong>2011</strong>, while<br />
the six-member Aakar Puppet Group, led by Shri Puran<br />
Bhatt, was there from 23-28 November, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
Uganda<br />
The Vice-President, Shri M. Hamid Ansari, paid a transit<br />
visit to Kampala from 8-10 July, <strong>2011</strong>. He called on the<br />
President, Mr Yaweri Museveni, and discussed matters of<br />
mutual interest.<br />
Shri Arun Yadav, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food<br />
Processing Industries, visited Uganda from 25-29 April, <strong>2011</strong>,<br />
at the invitation of the Ugandan Minister of Agriculture.<br />
