Messages
• Homework will be given out on Friday and expected in no later than Wednesday.
• School uniform reminder – No trainers are allowed in school. Must be school shoes..
• We would like parents to sign their child’s home/school communication book each
week to indicate that you have read the weekly comment written by the teacher.
• Please remember to send your child to school with their PE kit on their PE days.
Children must wear the white PE t-shirt and black PE shorts that can be purchased
from the uniform shop. Students must also bring a change of socks and sports
shoes. Students must not wear jewelry during PE lessons; this is to ensure the
safety of your child and their peers. On swimming days children must bring an
appropriate swimming suit, short trunks for boys and a one piece swimsuit for girls.
Students need a towel, swimming hat and they may bring goggles if they wish.
Please note that all children are required to bring a swimming hat. This is to help to
keep the swimming pool clean.
• The Global Classroom offers an opportunity for your child to develop their learning
beyond the classroom environment. It provides a number of creative opportunities
for children including; critically thinking about real life issues; become involved in
discussions with children around the globe; debating; creative story writing;
philosophy and more. It is updated regularly and is monitored for quality
contributions. It is a safe environment where children are encouraged to maintain
web etiquette and is developed to assist your child in "high performance" learning.
• No school for children on Thuirsday15th and Friday 16 th due to staff training.
Literacy
In Literacy we will be completing a set of assessments to help inform our judgements on
pupil progress.
Numeracy
In Numeracy we will also be completing a set of assessments to help inform our judgements
on pupil progress.
Humanities
In Humanities we will plan for a speaking and listening assessment for the following week.
Science
In Science we will begin to revisit and revise for the end of term assessment which is due the
following week.
Art
In Art we will be sketching Buddha’s developing our skills of drawing still life and shading.
Mandarin Y5 L1
This week we will be learning topic of personal information. Key sentences are “我(wǒ)…岁
(I’m….years old), “我(wǒ)上(shàng)…年(nián)级(jí)”(I am in …..year). Key
words are: 岁(suì),了(le),上(shàng),年(nián),级(jí).

After finishing off with the topic of Making a Phone Call, Season and Weather will be
introduced. Pupils will be encouraged to say what the weather is like during the four seasons.

Mandarin Y5 L3A
This week we will finish Lesson 4 and begin a new topic of Housework. We will introduce the
new words and sentence patterns based on the prior knowledge. We will encourage the
pupils to play out the dialogue.
Mandarin Y5 L3AA
This week we'll continue with the topic "Olympic Games". Pupils will practise the sentence
patterns and characters we have learnt.

Dutch
We hebben antwoord van Rian Visser, de auteur die onze reisverhalen heeft beoordeeld. Ze
is onder de indruk van het schrijftalent van de leerlingen van SDS en heeft met veel plezier
de verhalen gelezen. Er waren ontzettend veel inzendingen vanuit heel Nederland en helaas
is SDS niet in de prijzen gevallen. Wel heeft iedereen een heus schrijfdiploma gewonnen!
We doen binnenkort weer mee met een schrijfwedstrijd. Het moet gaan over een geheim.
