Walking For Scotty<br />
In honour of their friend, Scott Darley,<br />
who tragically lost his life last October, the<br />
Walking for Scotty team topped the charts<br />
raising a mammoth $22,445 for <strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong><br />
<strong>Kids</strong> at this year’s City2Surf.<br />
“I’m not sure exactly how,” Scott Darley<br />
had said to his mother after attending<br />
Bailey’s Dinner in aid of <strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong>,<br />
where he’d first heard about the work of our<br />
charity, “but I really want to do something<br />
to help <strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong>.” <strong>The</strong> very next week,<br />
the young speedway racer’s life came<br />
to a tragic end when his car crashed at<br />
Parramatta City Raceway.<br />
To honour Scott’s wish to make a difference<br />
to the lives of families confronting childhood<br />
cancer, his friends and family have since<br />
given generously in his memory, and rallied<br />
the support of the wider community. <strong>The</strong>ir<br />
fundraising efforts for the City2Surf brings<br />
the total amount raised for <strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong><br />
in Scott’s memory<br />
to $49,331.<br />
One of Scott’s best mates, Stu McCarthy<br />
was the organiser behind the Walking for<br />
Scotty team, AKA “Scotty’s Squad”.<br />
“We started fundraising in June,” Stu says,<br />
“we’ve raised support through our friends<br />
and family, as well as the speedway<br />
community. It’s been a great way to give<br />
back, and to get fit and have fun in the<br />
process. It was awesome doing the walk on<br />
the day with the whole <strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong> team,<br />
everywhere you looked there were purple<br />
caps and orange T-Shirts – Scott would<br />
have loved it!”<br />
CICSO <strong>Kids</strong><br />
When CISCO set out to do the City2Surf as<br />
part of a teambuilding exercise, little did<br />
they realise their efforts would culminate in<br />
a tremendous $20,010 for <strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong>!<br />
“<strong>The</strong> idea to do the City2Surf came<br />
about because we were looking for a<br />
teambuilding activity,” says Cisco’s Anne<br />
de Brito. “<strong>Our</strong> CSR Coordinator Samantha<br />
Birmingham had a connection with <strong>Cure</strong><br />
<strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong>, so when she told us about the<br />
charity’s work and suggested we do the<br />
fun run in their aid, we all agreed it was the<br />
perfect option.”<br />
Initially, the Cisco <strong>Kids</strong> team comprised<br />
exclusively of members of the evolving<br />
team, but soon word got around the<br />
company and staff from all areas wanted<br />
to get involved. In the end, a total of 84<br />
people from all divisions of Cisco raised<br />
funds and slogged out the 14 kilometres for<br />
<strong>Cure</strong> <strong>Our</strong> <strong>Kids</strong>.
