REGISTRATION & RE-REGISTRATION PROCESS<br />
1 Boxers initial medical examination SME1 and <strong><strong>re</strong>gistration</strong> <strong>process</strong><br />
1.1 A Boxer must be training with the club they intend to <strong>re</strong>gister with.<br />
1.2 The boxer must notify his/her Club Coach and Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary about <strong>re</strong>gistering as a<br />
boxer. This would be dealt with by the Club Coach and Sec<strong>re</strong>tary.<br />
1.3 The Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary must <strong>re</strong>quest a uniquely <strong>re</strong>fe<strong>re</strong>nced SME1 Form (Initial Medical<br />
Examination) from their District Sec<strong>re</strong>tary. This is the only way clubs can<br />
source SME1 forms.<br />
1.4 The District Sec<strong>re</strong>tary will issue the SME1 form to the Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary.<br />
1.5 The Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary or Coach must arrange a medical examination with a Doctor<br />
(ABS have <strong>re</strong>commended Doctors for medical examinations if needed).<br />
1.6 The top section of the SME1 Form must be completed clearly by the Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary.<br />
The Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary or the Boxer must p<strong>re</strong>sent the SME1 Form to the Doctor for their<br />
medical examination.<br />
1.7 If the boxer is passed fit to box, the Doctor must complete all <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>d sections of<br />
the bottom part of the SME1 Form and sign it, <strong>re</strong>ady to be sent back to ABS. The<br />
Doctor must also clearly print the name of the Boxer who is deemed fit to box.<br />
1.8 The SME1 Form must then be checked by the Club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary and the Box to make<br />
su<strong>re</strong> all information <strong>re</strong>quested has been completed cor<strong>re</strong>ctly. The SME1 Form must<br />
be completed in full with legible hand writing and in BLOCK CAPITALS.<br />
1.9 The SME1 Form must have two <strong>re</strong>cent passport photos attached with the Boxers<br />
name clearly written on the back of each photo. One by paper clip and one stuck<br />
onto the photo part of the form.<br />
1.10 The completed SME1 form must then be sent to ABS with a payment of £20 in <strong>re</strong>turn<br />
for the Boxers SME2 Record Card and a stamped add<strong>re</strong>ssed envelope with adequate<br />
postage for the number of cards to be <strong>re</strong>turned (see section 3).<br />
1.11 The <strong>process</strong>ing time will be approximately two weeks for SME1 Initial Medical<br />
Examination forms. This may vary depending on the amount of forms being <strong>re</strong>ceived<br />
by ABS.<br />
1.12 Any form found to be incomplete will not be <strong>process</strong>ed and <strong>re</strong>turned to the sender<br />
by ABS.<br />

1.13 SME1 Forms will no longer be accepted or <strong>process</strong>ed at ABS National<br />
Championships, District or Club shows. Forms delive<strong>re</strong>d to the ABS office will no<br />
longer be <strong>process</strong>ed on site while Club Coaches/Sec<strong>re</strong>taries wait.<br />
1.14 ABS will examine the SME1 Form and subject to satisfactory completion, an SME2<br />
(Boxers Record Card) will be sent to the club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary in the stamped add<strong>re</strong>ssed<br />
envelope provided.<br />
1.15 The boxer is then deemed <strong>re</strong>giste<strong>re</strong>d and is fit to compete at ABS sanctioned Club<br />
Shows and National Championships.<br />
1.16 Under no circumstances should boxers be matched or ente<strong>re</strong>d into shows or<br />
championships prior to being issued with their SME-2 Record Card.<br />
Please Note: ABS will not accept SME1 forms in any of the following conditions – Torn,<br />
copied onto paper (must be on card), black and white copies, crushed, folded, incomplete<br />
information, incor<strong>re</strong>ct information, illegible handwriting, not signed by the examining<br />
Doctor, not signed by the pa<strong>re</strong>nt if boxer is under 18 years of age, photos a<strong>re</strong> not signed or<br />
photos a<strong>re</strong> not <strong>re</strong>cent and/or <strong>re</strong>p<strong>re</strong>sent a true likeness of the Boxer. No tape to be used on<br />
card, one by paperclip and one stuck onto the photo part of the form.<br />
2 Process for Completing the SME2 (by the ABS Office only)<br />
2.1 After checking the SME1 Form for cor<strong>re</strong>ct completion, issue a unique <strong><strong>re</strong>gistration</strong><br />
number.<br />
2.2 Complete SME2 with Registration Number, attach Photograph, insert Club and<br />
District, Fo<strong>re</strong>name and Surname, Date of Birth, and Add<strong>re</strong>ss, Signatu<strong>re</strong> of Registrar<br />
and Date. The SME2 Record Book will be Stamped with ABS Stamp.<br />
2.3 Attach a label to the front with Boxer’s Name, Club, Registration Number and Date<br />
of Birth.<br />
If a Duplicate Book is <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>d this must be written in Red ink at the top of the page<br />
containing the Signatu<strong>re</strong> of the Registrar, with Number of contests the Boxer has had.<br />
If a Boxer has had a Medical suspension and is now fit to Box then the words “Passed fit to<br />
Box by Doctor ------------ on Date” in the appropriate line, when the <strong>re</strong>st period is completed.<br />
Please Note – We will have to check many other aspects concerning the welfa<strong>re</strong> of the<br />
Boxer, this may take some time to complete.<br />

3 Boxer Re-<strong><strong>re</strong>gistration</strong><br />
3.1 At the end of the season the club Sec<strong>re</strong>tary should send the SME2 (Boxers Record<br />
Card) to ABS Ltd, 5 Nasmyth Court, Houston Industrial Estate, Livingston, EH54 5EG,<br />
to be <strong>re</strong>-<strong>re</strong>giste<strong>re</strong>d for the coming season. A stamped, add<strong>re</strong>ssed envelope with<br />
adequate postage (see section 3), <strong>re</strong>-<strong><strong>re</strong>gistration</strong> fee of £10 and a note to <strong>re</strong>quest<br />
<strong>re</strong>-<strong><strong>re</strong>gistration</strong> of the Boxer(s) with the named club for the coming season.<br />
3.2 ABS will check the SME2 Boxers Record Card, stamp it for the coming season as <strong>re</strong><strong>re</strong>giste<strong>re</strong>d<br />
and send it back in the envelope provided.<br />
3.3 Once the club <strong>re</strong>ceive the <strong>re</strong>-<strong>re</strong>giste<strong>re</strong>d stamped SME2 Boxers Record Card, the<br />
boxer is then <strong>re</strong>giste<strong>re</strong>d for the coming season and can compete in ABS sanctioned<br />
shows/events and National Championships.<br />
4 SME2 Postage Guide (Boxers Record Cards)<br />
When sending ABS your clubs SME1 (Initial Medical Examination Card) please make su<strong>re</strong> you<br />
follow this postage guide for the <strong>re</strong>turn of SME2 Boxer Record Cards.<br />
Your add<strong>re</strong>ssed envelope should have the following postage attached:<br />

GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF THE ABS MEDICAL SCHEME<br />
<strong>Amateur</strong> <strong>Boxing</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong> has in place a Medical Scheme for the protection of its Boxers.<br />
An Initial Medical Examination is given to every entrant befo<strong>re</strong> they a<strong>re</strong> allowed to Box.<br />
Initial Medical Examination Form (SME1) to be signed by the Pa<strong>re</strong>nt or Guardian if the Boxer<br />
is under 18 years of age, with contact details included.<br />
Boxers Medical Record Card, the Registration Book (SME2) allows the Boxer to Box.<br />
The (SME3) Form is used after Medical suspension.<br />
The Official in Charge/Technical Delegate Report form (SME4) is used to <strong>re</strong>cord details of the<br />
Tournament i.e. if a Boxer is knocked out (KO), or if the Refe<strong>re</strong>e stops the contest from a<br />
blow to the Head (RSCH) will be <strong>re</strong>corded and the appropriate action taken, which is 30 days<br />
<strong>re</strong>st plus other action if necessary. If the Refe<strong>re</strong>e stops the contest (RSC) because a Boxer<br />
was being outsco<strong>re</strong>d by a large margin that would also be <strong>re</strong>corded. The Doctor, Officials<br />
and their Duties would also be <strong>re</strong>corded. The<strong>re</strong> is also a section for a Report on how the<br />
Tournament went.<br />
The Tournament Record Sheet (SME4a) is used to <strong>re</strong>cord all the Results and Contests that<br />
took place at the Tournament.<br />
The (SME4b) gives further Data on the Boxers taking part at the Tournament, with a section<br />
for the Signatu<strong>re</strong> of the OIC / Technical Delegate and Doctor.<br />
All the Tournament Record Sheets have to be sent to <strong>Amateur</strong> <strong>Boxing</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong> Ltd,<br />
Livingston within 7 Days.<br />
THE INITIAL MEDICAL EXAMINATION<br />
The Medical Examination means the “Initial Medical Examination” which must be<br />
undertaken befo<strong>re</strong> anyone is permitted to Box. The form of examination which takes place<br />
at Tournaments, will be <strong>re</strong>fer<strong>re</strong>d to as “Medical Inspection”<br />
The Initial Medical Examination must take the form laid down by <strong>Amateur</strong> <strong>Boxing</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong><br />
Ltd, and contained in the File card headed “Initial Medical Examination” (SME1)<br />
