11.00 - 12.00 - Från upplevelse till undersökning
Forskarstudent/Phd Student: Cecilia Parsberg
The overriding research issue can be formulated as follows: how can public
structures be shaped, influenced or even created by individuals?
The central issue for my research project is:what is the essence of the triangular
relationship between fine art, documentary and social media? What
kind of interaction can be constructed between them? What are the cause and
effect possibilities of this interaction?
How does the construction of the presentation in visual, sound, space and
virtual terms affect its impact? What aesthetic decisions are pertinent for the
efficacy of it’s program?
Background: Five Actions in South Africa and eight projects in Palestine and
Israel have shaped my view of art and its meaning. I do not take photographs,
they are given to me in the encounter. It is not the image of an event that
counts, it is the situation created because of our inner images. And then how
the image is mediated.
13.45 - 14.15 - Galleri Maskinen (KU-Projekt/Project)
Gallery Maskinen
Projektledare/Projectleader: Joakim Hansson
”Galleri Maskinen” was founded in 2008 by a group of people with
connections to the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, in the beginning the
gallery had no space and was a nomadic gallery, but after a year or so
a space was found in a basement at Pilgatan 28 in Umeå.
The gallery was run there as an association founded by various grants
and support from Umeå city, IASPIS and others up until may 2011. The
phocus of Galleri Maskinen up until may 2011 was to do exhibitions and
arrange short events. This continued after the KU-project ”Maskinen”
was granted from Umeå University. The difference was that from june
2011 artists still studying were let into the gallery to use it for
their projects and to get the opportunity to try out ideas and
experiment with the space. During the time june 2011 and june 2012 no
less than 17 exhibitions were held in the space. The artists were both
students and established artists. They were as follows:
Sana Ghobbeh & Mani Ghodratnama, Niklas Goldbach, Andreas Sandström,
Jonas Gazell, Iris Piers, Stina Malmqvist, Ann-Catrin Olsson, Tanja
Novikova, Eskil Liepa & Josefin Bergman, Andreas Knag-Danielsen,
Helena Piippo Larsson, Madelaine Sillfors & Lisa Vipola, Marte Edvarda
Tidsevold, Markus Lerviks, Andreas Brännström & Matti Sumari, Linda
Spjut, Arngrímur Borgþórsson.
During this time Galleri Maskinen also encouraged the artists to do
artist talks either in the gallery or at the Umeå Academy of Fine
Arts, this was voluntary for the artists and some chose to do this.
The main aim of the KU-project Maskinen was to find out how it is to
run a gallery like maskinen as a group, basing the decisions of the
gallery on a democratic basis with majority vote as the leading star
in decisionmaking. This was done during the year and often led to long
discussions on what to do, who to exhibit and in which direction to
take the gallery. This way of decisionmaking requires the involved
persons to be actively involved in the gallery, to some time wasn´t
enough and so the composition of the group running Galleri Maskinen
between june 2011 and june 2012 has changed quite a lot – some people
have left and others have joined. We have strived to involve both
students and non-students in the group running the gallery and now it
is about 50% students and non-students compared to when the project
started this figure was 15%.
