M E S S A G E F R O M T H E P R E S I D E N T
I am writing this as it pours rain, with a chance of breaking June rainfall
records. Despite the rain, the forecast is for sunshine on Tuesday, June
8, the day of our golf tournament. That is all I ask! We have the
largest golfing group ever, with about 20 foursomes signed up. We
appreciate all the sponsorship support we received! Many thanks to
the golf committee, chaired by Kirk Stevens, including Bob Freeman,
Wayne Marschall, Joyce Purdy, and Winston Asai.
Our meeting in May was informative and enjoyable, with Jim Mark of
Melvin Mark Properties, along with Barbara Radler, a real estate partner with Ball Janik,
and John Petersen, Senior Vice President of CBRE Capital Markets. They spoke to us
about the Portland commercial real estate market, with a historical and prospective
view. We also enjoyed Sari de la Motte’s presentation about the importance of
matching your delivery message to your recipient, in the nonverbal ways that we
communicate, through stance, hand gestures, and voice fluctuations.
At the May meeting, we ratified the new Portland FEI Chapter officers and board
members for the coming fiscal year. Our First VP of Programs is Mike Williams, our
Second VP of Membership is John Braxmeyer, the Treasurer is Kirk Stevens, the
Secretary is Teresa Learn, and I am continuing as President for a second year. Our
new board members are Bob Freeman, Gregg Olson, and Kellie VavRosky, and our
continuing board members are Paul Douthit, Sugie Joseph, Wayne Marschall, and Jeff
Slaughter. I want to expressly thank those committed to helping us run this great
organization, including our exiting Board members, Steve Babcock, Allison Fox, and
Steve Peterman.
We are looking forward to our extended Professional Development session on
Thursday, June 17. Come to learn about how globalization with affect your market,
first hearing from Tim Duy, Adjunct Assistant Professor and Director, Oregon Economic
Forum, Department of Economics, at the University of Oregon. You can earn 3.5
hours of CPE credit for attendance. See further details and registration information on
the prior page.
Our June golf and June professional development will be our last gathering for this
fiscal year. We will meet again at our September dinner meeting on Thursday,
September 16. Enjoy your summer!
Kyle Davidson, President
Portland Chapter, FEI

Dear FEI Portland Chapter Member:
M E M B E R S H I P N E W S !
What a year we’ve had here at the Portland FEI Chapter. Below is the list of new members that
we’ve added since July 1, 2010. Through your hard work and dedication to improving the
chapter we have not just survived the economic downturn but actually increased our active
members.
This wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the support of our FEI friends and you the
members. As I step into the VP of Programs role this coming year I am looking forward to the
fantastic speakers and development opportunities coming up that John Braxmeyer and his
team have put together this fall.
And speaking of John, I know that you will provide him and the 2010-2011 Membership
Committee the same incredible support that you gave to this year’s team. Don’t forget to
introduce yourself to the new members as you meet them in the coming year.
Please join me in welcoming Pete Craven, James Ande, Dean Larson, Alex Anderson, Richard
Zimmermann, Don Belden, Todd Henne, Olaf Janke, Paul Henry, Brian Gentry, Mark Shia,
David Blaskowsky, Nick Fish, Robert Jarrett, David Evans, Scott Olmstead, and Jim Horswill to
the Portland Chapter as new members.
Thanks again for your support this year. Have a great summer and we’ll see you in
September!
