47 Performance Management System Designed to identify and align employee objectives with those of the company as well as to encourage personal development and to enhance productivity by means of fair appraisal, the Performance Management System is applied to Erdemir Group’s entire workforce. Data collected through the system provides input for training and career development plans as well as for decisions related to contract extension and termination. Collective Bargaining Agreement According to the 21 st Collective Bargaining Agreement, which took effect on September 1, 2006 and will be valid until August 31, 2008, employees at Ere¤li plant were entitled to a wage increase in both the second and third semi-annual Agreement periods, beginning on March 1, 2007 and September 1, 2007, respectively. In accordance with a separate protocol signed with the Türk Metal Sendikas› (Turkish Metal Union), Ere¤li plant also fulfilled its obligation to phase out 80% of previously subcontracted 1.300 positions by hiring 926 fulltime employees during 2007. ‹skenderun plant signed the 22 nd Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Çelik ‹fl Sendikas› (Steel-Workers Union) on May 24, 2007 and the agreement will be valid until December 31, 2008. Salary increases took effect in semi-annual periods, in accordance with the terms of the agreement. Erdemir Çelik Servis Merkezi collective bargaining agreement took effect on July 1, 2007 and terminates on June 30, 2009. Collective bargaining agreement in our plant in Romania was signed on June 1, 2007 and will be valid until May 31, 2008. Çelbor’s collective bargaining agreement took effect on September 1, 2007 and will need to be renewed by August 31, 2008. Even though the collective bargaining agreement at Erdemir Maden had to be renewed as of January 1, 2007, negotiations could not have been initiated since the union’s authorization certificate was not timely issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. As demonstration of Erdemir Group’s goodwill, we increased the salaries by 10% for 2007 to be deducted once the new agreement is settled. Health Services Erdemir Group provides its employees and retirees with a wide variety of health services, ranging from emergency room services to clinical diagnostic and rehabilitative treatments, in addition to various training programs designed to increase our employees’ awareness about means of healthy living and disease preventive measures. 6.306 employees and 948 retirees were treated, while 2.762 doses of hepatitis and flu vaccine were provided free of charge in our clinic at Ere¤li plant last year. Our training curriculum also covered a wide range of topics, including “Effective and Emphatic Communication, Psychology of Success and NLP, Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Management” lectured by expert psychologists. In addition, we commenced Certified First Aid Training programs during the course of 2007. As a result, 718 employees in Ere¤li and 145 employees in ‹skenderun fulfilled their programs and were certified in first aid response.
