At the end of a large capital project, there might be many tens of thousands of documents<br />
for the EPC contrac<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> turn over <strong>to</strong> the owner (Figure 1.19). The EPC contrac<strong>to</strong>r in turn will<br />
have received many of these documents from a number of suppliers and subcontrac<strong>to</strong>rs, each<br />
in the form most convenient for the authoring organization. Usually, <strong>to</strong> be of any use <strong>to</strong> the<br />
owner every document has <strong>to</strong> be read by a real person, entered in<strong>to</strong> the owner’s document<br />
control system, and manually linked <strong>to</strong> the plant object in the owner’s facility operations and<br />
maintenance software. This can take many months and cost millions of dollars. Obviously,<br />
owners want <strong>to</strong> reduce the cost and have the information ready <strong>to</strong> use for startup.<br />
