How ISO 15926 Makes Life Easier in the Long Term
The preceding examples highlight existing information exchanges and show how they are
made easier using ISO 15926. In the three examples following, we are speculating based on
what will be possible when ISO 15926 becomes widely adopted.
Using Specialized Designs
Figure 1.21 shows a project previously designed by one of the EPC contractors, as well as a
specialist the EPC contractor works with. ISO 15926 will make it much easier to reuse previous
work and to integrate the work of specialists. Currently, we try to do the smart thing and reuse
work we have previously done. But there are practical barriers that often get in our way. For
instance, a design may have been done with a different engineering design system or perhaps
with an older version of a design system than that currently used. We salvage as much as possible,
but often large parts must be redone.
