When comparing the actual costs involved in
investing in a tractor, it is important to consider
the overall costs and operating costs per hour
or acre. These include fuel consumption, which
is the single greatest factor amounting to more
than 50% of costs, write-off including resale
value, servicing, repairs and miscellaneous costs
such as insurance or housing.

Based on a joint design study with Porsche,
Fendt engineers have developed a completely
new look for the 900 Vario.
Essential design elements are a narrowed
hood and newly designed lighting on both the
hood and cab. Great efforts were taken to pair
optimum functionality with the most modern

Whether in forward or reverse position – full comfort in each direction
The new Fendt factory-installed Reverse Station (optional) on the 900 Vario was already taken into account during the
design phase of the X5 cab and is one hundred percent integrated in the vehicle concept. The result is a full functioning
reversible operator's area without compromises. Unlock the lock, pull the steering column forward towards the seat
with the help of supporting springs and turn the entire operator station in the desired direction of travel, then press
the steering column back into working position and lock it in place.
All of the operator's displays, steering functions, and transmission functions are in front of the operator while traveling
in the opposite direction. Therefore the operator doesn’t have to rethink operating movements and can drive in either
direction without the slightest impairment of ride or operating comfort while having all the operating and control
elements in the accustomed position.

The X5 on the 900 Vario is the largest cab

More than ordinary suspension
The three-point cab suspension on the X5 cab is
an entirely new concept that provides a torsionfree
connection to the tractor body. It minimizes
the transmission of acoustic and mechanical
vibrations. The tilted spring elements have
integrated level control, so that constant ride
comfort is assured without having to change
settings. The combination of suspended cab and
active suspension on the operator seat (optional)

The Power version of the 900 Vario is conceived for
large-sized farms that require vehicles with pure
traction, but only need elementary automatic functions
for simplifying complex procedures.
It is not fitted with a crossgate lever nor a comfort front
power lift control module and does not have control keys
for the Variotronic TI Headland Management System.

The multi-function armrest can be adjusted
independently in vertical and horizontal
direction. It accommodates the Varioterminal
and multi-function joystick, as well as all
operating functions. That means you get
optimum ergonomics. There are no longer
relative movements between the operator
on the suspended seat and the Varioterminal,
since it always moves together with the seat.

Power lift under tight control
The newly designed Varioterminal boasts a
modern design with a considerably larger
screen. Its position on the multi-function
armrest can be adjusted independently.
The power lift controls are located next to
the joystick and crossgate lever. With a new
type of power lift control module, you now

Fuel consumption
A fuel consumption indicator is integrated in the
Varioterminal on the 900 Vario. It constantly informs you
about the current fuel consumption. Additionally, there is
an extra menu page that displays average fuel consumption
along with the current consumption, a value that previously
had to be calculated from the amount of fuel that was refueled
and the corresponding number of operating hours.
There are two sum counters that allow you to assign the
amount of fuel used precisely to a certain area or, in the
case of agricultural contracting, to a certain customer. Fuel
consumption per acre can also be logged at the same time in
the on-board computer.
So powerful, and yet so economical,
thanks to the latest engine technology
The external EGR system provides targeted cooling of recirculated exhaust,
which lowers fuel consumption considerably compared to internal
recirculation systems. It can save you up to 10 percent in fuel.

The 900 Vario tractors have efficient cooling units with maximum
serviceability. The Visctronic electronic fan control can be activated by
every cooler individually. The efficiency with which the cooling system
is controlled is substantially higher than that of other cooling systems
and cooling reserves need not be maintained, which has a positive effect
on fuel consumption.
No matter if you use your high-horsepower
tractor mainly for field applications or for
transporting–in either case, superior overall
profitability is crucial.

Economical engine technology
In the light of increasing diesel prices, fuel
economy takes on new importance. In the 900
Vario, Fendt employs the new Deutz TCD 2013
L06 4V engine to increase economy. It has a
speed-independent common rail high-pressure
fuel injection system and fully electronic
engine control.

AGRex external EGR – economical and
environmentally friendly
The high-tech injection system and the firstrate
external exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
system complement each other. Cooling and
proportioning of recirculated exhaust gas
optimizes the combustion process significantly.
The benefit in comparison to a simple, internal
exhaust gas recirculation system is substantially
lower fuel consumption.

Fully approved for biodiesel (RME)
The 900 Vario is also approved for
biodiesel up to B100 without restrictions,
as are all Fendt tractors starting with
the 1995 models. The use of RME (rape
methyl ester) according to DIN EN 14214

Fendt Vario: better than powershift
With a continuously variable transmission, you
can use power reserves that are not even available
to modern powershift transmissions. With
conventional transmissions, you are often one
gear too high or too low, because of the steps.
Vario allows you to mobilize the power reserves
that are hidden in between the steps. The result:
power flow without interruptions.

A creeper gearbox for special operations is no
longer necessary. With the 900 Vario, you can
drive 0.018 mph (30 meters/hour) and up at rated
engine speed.
In addition to economic benefits, the stepless
drive also offers you a one-of-a-kind benefit in ride
comfort. To increase driving comfort, the 900 Vario
has a turboclutch feature, which prevents engine
stalling. While driving with TMS, the electronics
take over the complete transmission control and

The fourth-generation Fendt 900 Vario is an uncompromising new development

A combination of suspension systems
The combination of shock-load stabilizing, X5 cab with pneumatic suspension and independent wheel front
axle suspension with level control, provides ride comfort on par with commercial highway vehicles. This also
contributes to operating control since the vehicle is less likely to develop bounce when transporting with mounted
implements. The load on the front axle remains constant and steerability is maintained.

The 31 mph (50 km/h) version of the 900
Vario has the FBS2 dual-circuit braking system
and Fendt Stability Control (FSC) as optional
equipment. In addition to enhanced comfort,
these systems provide greater driving stability
and increased braking capacity, which permit
a maximum speed of 31 mph (50 km/h). That
means increased mobility for you. A further
benefit is a higher permissible gross weight
and the higher payload that goes with it.
Level control ensures a constant long suspension travel
- independent of load.
The pneumatic suspension has integrated level control, so
that the level of comfort always remains constant without
having to make adjustments. The large height difference and
long distance between the spring elements on the X5 cab
compensate for braking effects and pitching movements.

Even in the Power version, a gross vehicle weight of 39,000 lbs
(18,000 kg) is possible for the 900 Vario. The Power version is therefore
the right tractor for you if you need a high-horsepower tractor that you
will use predominantly for heavy-duty draft work in the field.
The full comfort of the suspension systems is also available for operations
in the field, where it increases operator comfort making operators more
productive and accurate.
The transport of silage, manure and other
materials is an increasingly important tractor
application in agricultural production
today. The Fendt answer to this challenge
is an unprecedented concept: a standard
tractor with a 1 mph (50 km/h) high–
speed chassis, which delivers maximum
operational performance capability on the
road as well as in
the field.
More mobility with greater control
The 900 Vario was the first standard tractor
with full in-field capabilities that could achieve
a top speed of 31 mph (50 km/h). The basis for
this enhanced mobility is a perfectly adapted
high-speed chassis. The symbiosis between a
front axle with independent suspension, FSC,
a reactive steering system and dual-circuit
four-wheel braking system provides maximum
payloads and highway performance on par with
commercial highway vehicles.

Comfort begins at the front axle
The hydropneumatic independent wheel
suspension on the front axle has 12 inches
(300 mm) of travel, which is the longest of
any standard tractor. The fully automatic level
control ensures a constant suspension travel
up to a maximum front axle load of 17,600 lbs
(8,000 kg). When adding weights, changing
tires, etc., the entire suspension travel length
can be run through manually. The front axle
suspension can be locked to allow precise

implement control in the front mounting
area–while maintaining axle swing.
With the Fendt dual-circuit, four-wheel
braking system (FBS2), the 900 Vario is also
fitted with Fendt Stability Control (FSC). FSC
controls the behavior of the independent
suspension of the front wheels. FSC action
varies with travel speed. FSC ensures better
tracking when steering into curves.

New tire size
High engine power alone is not enough for
heavy-duty traction work. To optimally transfer
the extra engine power from the new 900 Vario
to the ground, it was designed with enough
space for a completely new tire concept.
Tires with an 85” (2150 mm) diameter can be
mounted on the rear axle–they are matched by
69” (1750 mm) diameter tires on the front axle.
In comparison to previous tire concepts, this is a
15% increase in tire contact.

To match performance and tires, the 900
Vario also has a new modular ballast weight
concept. The tractor can be equipped with up
to 5,500 lbs (2,500 kg) of front weight. This can
be done with or without front power lift. At the
rear, two 2,205 lbs (1000 kg) wheel weights are
possible, one per side. The rear wheel weights
are integrated into the rims to stay within the
overall vehicle width.

The 900 Vario is fitted with a flange rear PTO. When required, you
can switch between PTO options easily and in a relatively short
amount of time.
Save yourself unnecessary steps
Rear fender controls for the rear power lift, one hydraulic valve, and
a rear PTO shutoff are available for the 900 Vario.

PTO controls are integrated into the front and rear power lift
controls.
Minimize risk of drive shaft damage
Concentrate on the essentials at the headlands. The standardequipment
PTO automatic mode engages and disengages the PTO
as soon as you lower or raise the implement.
You will appreciate the operating comfort of
the 900 Vario, in particular for tillage applications,
where you often must operate the
PTO controls in addition to the linkage controls.
It offers you extensive, high-quality
PTO management with start-up control.
Two-speed PTO as standard
The PTO engagement control has 2-speed
preselection. It is conveniently operated with
a membrane keypad on the Variocenter. The
900 Vario comes equipped with 1-3/4” and
1-3/8” 1,000 rpm shafts. The economy 540 rpm
shaft kit is also available. The optional front PTO
is driven directly from the engine’s crankshaft
with no loss of power.

The automatic PTO start-up control sensitively
controls start-up in the front and at the rear,
according to the power requirements of the
implement. This increases the service life of all
the PTO components and reduces machine
costs.

Power lift linkage with Electro Hydraulic Response (EHR)
Powerful hydraulics
for heavy implements
The lift capacities of the front and rear power lift linkages on the 900 Vario have been significantly
increased compared to the previous models. The EHR rear linkage has a maximum capacity of 19,800
lbs (8,981 kg) at link ends and 9,000 lbs (4,082 kg) at link ends on the front. This allows the 900 Vario
to lift heavy implements.
The front power lift is an integral part of the tractor design. The coupling point is therefore
relatively close to the tractor, which has a favorable effect on the weight distribution of the
tractor when equipped with mounted front implements. Regarding linkage design, the 900 Vario
is well designed to the last detail. For example, the top link can remain on the tractor, even when
not in use.
Premium class hydraulic equipment
In the Profi version, the 900 Vario has enough hydraulic options for most farm applications.
The EHR rear linkage can be switched over to double-acting mode with the terminal.
A double-acting comfort front power lift and front power lift are available as options instead of
the standard comfort front ballast.
In the Profi version, up to eight electric double-acting auxiliary control units are optionally
available. The connections at the rear are all connect-under-pressure lever couplings.
Modern implements demand even greater
flexibility and performance from the tractor
hydraulics. Fast lifting and high flow
rates are required for economical operation.
The 900 Vario models, with their loadsensing
hydraulics and electrical hydraulic
valves, are well-equipped for comfortable

The 900 Vario in the Power version has a simpler range of equipment than the
Profi version and is designed for heavy-duty traction work with conventional
implements. It can be equipped with a maximum of four electric auxiliary control
valves (4 electric hydraulic valves are standard). These are controlled by the fingertip
controls. A crossgate lever and multi-function joystick are not available in the Power
version. When using the optional front hydraulics, these are controlled via one of
the fingertip controls. A double-acting comfort power lift is not available with this
model. In contrast to the Profi version, the rear linkage is single-acting.

You can control electric proportional valves with the multi-function joystick,
crossgate lever, and the fingertip controls. These are all double-acting controlled
valves, which can be used in a single-acting capacity, and also feature a floating
position. The valve controls for the first two valves are located on the convenient
crossgate lever. Setting the valve functions with the Varioterminal is simple. Using
the rotary control and function keys, you can easily and precisely control the flow
rates and actuation times of all electric proportional valves, set valve priority or
activate external controls for a valve.
The 900 Vario is equipped with a load-sensing
hydraulic system. Modern axial piston pumps
deliver the exact quantity of hydraulic oil
required–up to 42 gpm (160 Lpm). A maximum
of 23 gallons (87 liters) of hydraulic oil is
available for mounted or trailed implements.
The hydraulics and transmission have separate
oil reservoirs, which permit unrestricted use of
bio-oils for the hydraulics.

EHR rear power lift with reserves
The electrohydraulic rear power lift, which has a
maximum lift capacity of 19,800 lbs (8,981 kg) at
link ends, guarantees that in practical operation
even heavy rear-mounted implements designed
for this power class can be lifted to the fullest
lift height without trouble. The standardequipment
shock-load stabilizing counteracts
vehicle bounce by actively raising and lowering
the power lift during transport.
Auxiliary valve equipment for all tasks
In the Profi version, the 900 Vario already has
four electric double-acting auxiliary control
valves as standard and can be upgraded to
eight control valves. These are controlled via
the crossgate lever, fingertip control valve
and the multi-function joystick.
If front hydraulic valves are required,
individual hydraulic lines are available when
used with the comfort front power lift.

a clean cab.
You have surely experienced this in your

implements when you are pressed for time
or have to work many hours without breaks
during peak work times, it's often the small
detail solutions that make life easier. Fendt
offers you a number of these solutions.
The front ballast weights on the 900 Vario have a modular design. Up to
5,500 lbs (2500 kg) in additional weight can be added, without tools, by
using either the front power lift (optional) or standard comfort ballast
support. The increased travel of the front axle suspension allows the
operator to manually attach different weight options.
Connecting hydraulic couplers the easy way. The four rear hydraulic remote
couplers and optional 5th and 6th in the Profi version and the four rear
hydraulic remote couplers on the Power version have standard doubleacting,
connect-under-pressure couplers.

All operating functions are integrated in the ergonomically
optimized joystick on the multi-function armrest. In addition
to the buttons for automatic functions and hydraulic valve
control, you can activate two engine speed memory and
cruise control keys without having to change controls.
The new standard-equipment Varioterminal is located on
the multi-function armrest. This location removes annoying
relative movements between the operator and the terminal.
The fully ISOBUS compatible Varioterminal has six function
keys and a 6.5” color monitor.

Comfort for the instructor. The 900 Vario is equipped with an instructor
seat with retractable seat belt.
To extend service intervals, the new inline air filter system has
permanent dust-suction cleaning. That minimizes downtime during
peak working times.
The 900 Vario was designed to give you access to all areas
necessary for daily service. A fold-out auxiliary step under
the engine provides easy, comfortable access.
Comfort front ballast mounting is standard equipment for
the 900 Series tractors. The operator can raise and lower
the modular front ballast weights by using the front axle
suspension while sitting in the cab.
