RAD Grant
Through the efforts of Sgt. Wing, the Public Safety Department was awarded a Ferris
Foundation Exceptional Merit Grant in the amount of $7205.58 for the purchase of new
equipment for the RAD program. The gear was in need of updating since it was the original
equipment which has been in use since the program began in 1999. The new gear was utilized in
October and was very helpful in running the program’s largest class to date with 26 students.
The gear included 2 new instructor suits, 12 student suits, 2 large body targets, 2 large folding
mats, equipment bags and instructor attire. With these items, the class can accommodate more
students and the training can be done in a safer and more efficient manner. We are also in the
process of offering the training at Kendall College.

Michigan Police Shoot
In August, Captain James Cook and Officer Michael
Chamberlain competed in the Michigan Police Pistol
Match in Jackson, MI. They competed against other
officers from departments with a sworn strength of
between 8 and 20 officers placing second amongst that
shooting class. They also took first place in the college
and university police department category.
