The lubricant specialist for
the aircraft industry
Big challenges will arise for the aircraft industries. The
reducing of fuel costs as well as the CO2 reduction force
the aircraft industry to reduce the weight of the aircraft.
Therefore new materials will be used.
Besides heat resistant nickel-based alloys for structure
and engine components also aluminium combined
materials will be used in the wings and fuselage.
The main changes will be to expect at the engine
components and will create highly-qualified demands
to the lubricants. For the manufacturing of engines
for GP7000 for Airbus A 380, MTU Aero Engines in
Munich depends with success on lubricants from FUCHS.
High-performance of lubricants
Lubricants for the aircraft industry are similar to the
tools and producing methods, part of the certification
of the component parts. This means, that every change
has to be checked if it takes advantage of life expectancy,
especially for heavily used components. Therefore very
high requirements on the lubricants are recommended.
FUCHS has taken care of the challenge and offers processing
fluids according to the expectations, worldwide.
Innovative expectations
During the development for innovative results the cooperation
with the lubricant manufacturer is necessary
from the beginning. Nowadays high strength materials
like titanaluminide or powder metallurgical nickel-based
alloys are used for the engine components to reduce fuel.
The modern materials are difficult to cut and cause a high
wear out of tools and longer duration. In additional ultramodern
production methods with high speed spindles
and high pressure are used. To obtain an economical manufacturing
of these new materials a strong co-operation
with the lubricant manufacturer, universities and the aircraft
industry is required. FUCHS is therefore integrated
in many projects to meet the high requirements of the
aircraft industry.
Specialist for cutting of
Aerospace materials
The components used in the aircraft business have high
requirements to the lubricants. Special requirements to
material compability, foaming, high pressure stability and
greasing performance. FUCHS has the right cutting oil for
every material. Besides aluminium for body and frame,
fuselage and wings, the turbine blades, engine panes,
turbine gaskets and generator casing made from Inconel,
X12CrNiCO, PH13-8 M0 or titan material have high level
requirements to the cutting oil.
Minimum quantity lubricant for
machining of Aerospace materials
In the field of metal machining, minimum quantity lubrication
enter increasingly the machining of nickel-based alloys and
aluminium. Because of the drastic reducing of cooling lubricants
costs will also be reduced.
For the assembling of wings and body components hundreds of
holes have to be drilled in aluminium AL 6061, AL 2024 and AL 7075.
Therefore ECOCUT MIKRO PLUS 20 and ECOCUT MIKRO PLUS 82
are applied. These products show the following properties:
Special lubricants for
grinding Aerospace materials
For the super finishing from turbine blades, turbine gaskets and
engine panes we use grinding operations. Especially for the use of
CBN cuttings the use of an appropriate cutting fluid is absolutely
necessary.
In opposite to the conventional grindings like siliciumcarbide or
corundum CBN is twice as hard. Only the accurate knowledge of
the mechanism in tribological contacts offers the possibility for an
adjusted cutting fluid selection. According to this you can select
between a water miscible cutting or machining oil.
With ECOCOOL 0055 FUCHS offers a water miscible cutting fluid
which also can be used for CBN grinding of heavy cutting material.
With the high-performance of this ester-based product, high surface
quality and grinding wheel life are achieved. In particular Viper
grinding for turbine components is approved. Therefore the cutting
oil will be sprayed on the grinding disc by a computerised cooling
injector element, which guaranties an equal cooling. Thereby a
good lubricating effect and an excellent foam behaviour are required.
Special lubricants for broaching and deep hole drilling
of Aerospace materials
Deep hole drilling processes make great demands to the used
cutting oil. Besides the good foaming behaviour for the transport
of the chips it also needs high lubricant performance to protect
supporting borders against wear.
Thereby the selection of the EP additives is very important, to
demand the required surface and tool life on materials such as
Inconel, Hastelloy and high-alloyed steel. To these difficult
treatment processes likewise the broaching belongs.
The following demands are important for broaching and deep hole
drilling oils:
■ excellent lubrication
■ excellent extreme pressure effect
■ excellent flushing performance
Essential for the quality and economy for the process is the
selection of the suitable cutting fluid with the right ingredients.
High-speed milling, turning and drilling of
Aerospace materials
Besides turn and drill operations the turbine blades are machined
with high-speed milling. There are enormous efforts for a cutting
oil. Besides high cutting performance especially the high pressure
capacity of cutting oil is forced. High spindle turnings with high
pressure are editing parameters to manufacture the parts economically
efficient and with the favoured surface area. 100 bar pressure
and high volume streaming will be used and a raise up to 200 bar
is not excluded. In research and development projects like LUFO
(Aerospace Research Program) FUCHS is a project partner for this
new technology in cooperation with the universities and the
industry. With his wide product portfolio FUCHS is able to find the
right cutting oil for any operation. For the manufacturing of the
A380 engine for MTU Aero Engines Munich, is counting on the
know how from FUCHS ECOCOOL 2506 S.
In extensive tests for cutting Inconel, Hastelloy and other high
warming materials, ECOCOOL 2506 S was selected as the test
winner. According to the competitors we had the best results in
surface quality and tool service life.
